Question Should I be considering a Diesel?

My plan is to get a used 2500 QC 4X4 and put 37's with apx 6" of lift. Its going to be for personal use. So that means no really heavy towing that couldn't be done with a Hemi.

Like everyone else, I love having more power than I need. Its almost never-ending. My last truck was a Srt-10. Turned out to be an uncomfortable daily driver. I know diesels can put out more power than gassers and they do it with ease. To me, having a Huge lifted truck with 37's that has as much power as my SRT is beyond a dream come true.

Reading these forums, it seems that the CTD only gets slightly better MPG than the Hemi. With the extra cost of the CTD and extra $$ over 87 octane, is it really worth the extra $$$?

How would the truck run with the bigger tires, would it be a dog? Will the CTD be a money pit for reliability upgrades to handle all the power I want out of it? (500hp or so)

So I guess my real question is, do I really need the Diesel for the setup I'm after?

Not really but what difference does it make? My truck is a a daily driver that never works. I bought it cause I wanted to have fun with it. Real work trucks gross 80,000 lbs or more that's what I do my "towing" in the Ram is for play.

I think youll find that a 3/4 ton 4x4 witha hemi on 37's will get around 10mpg.The diesel will likely get 14-15.Not only that if you get crazy with the gas motor have a guess what that will do for mileage.You can always set the diesel up for mpg one day and performance the next.My buddy has a half ton hemi with 33's and he gets 11 mpg at best

Yes by all means consider a diesel. I have more truck than I need 99% of the time. When I need it for the other 1% though it makes the purchase worth it for me. I don't run 37's on my truck, I have 33's, but if I drive it "normal" I get good fuel mileage. My last three trucks were diesels and like said above "if it keeps me from walking" I would have a gasser.

You can mod a diesel for more power and still get better mileage. Mine is sitting at around 425rwhp as it sits right now and I just checked this morning and am getting 16.7 city mpg.. No gasser is getting that, especially not modified ones....
Regardless of how I use my truck on a daily basis I always buy a truck that will do anything I will ever need it to do. I have found out the hard way that anything less than I have now is a waste of my time and money....

I would suggest that a 37" lifter, 10 mpg daily driver is only practical if you are really reach, or single with decent income, or only have to drive a very short distance.
Either a diesel or gasser will cost money to mod and drive with those mods. I somehow have a feeling that you do not have a need for a diesel for what you want. Keep in mind that repairs, at least to me, seem to be more expensive on a diesel. Fuel is more expensive too, for some crazy reason. If you do not require engine rattling, pulling, drag racing or heavy loads the diesel may just be an aggravation.

3/4 ton hemi...

My buddy has a QC 3/4 ton hemi with 6 inch suspension lift and 3 inch body lift with 37x13.5x17 mickeys and he gets 8.8 mpg. Which is better than my other friends FORD F250 Gasser that gets 6 mpg with the same setup minus the body lift.

I have a diesel....Do i need it for what I utilize it for... 99.99% of the time, NO. I think these trucks truly benefit the individual that drives them hard all their lives. So...do you "need" one. They are expensive to operate and maintain. Fuel right now, over here anyway, is thirty cents more expensive than reg. unleaded.

My question is completely different. What was uncomfortale about the SRT-10? In general, it's set up to be more of a performance truck overall. Something that high with a big Cummins engine will not handle well at all, and it'll need around 500 hp to get out of it's own un-aerodynamic way. I'm not a fan of lifted truck of any sort, but if you have the money and really want such a rig, hey - this is America...

NAAAAA! JK!!

For me, a diesel is the only choice. I think they are way more efficient and powerful vs the same size of gas. Ya, fuel costs more, the trucks tend to cost more, but a CTD will build crazy power with simple upgrades, and you don't have to upgrade the spark/ignition system! Not to mention the fact that the CTD will outlast a gas by along ways. I get 20 mpg in my 12v 1st gen. Show me a 360 (5.9) gas motor that will make that on 87 octane. Maybe on 91 but now your paying diesel or more prices!

You can't go wrong on a CTD!!!!

But seems like a lot of guys are turning their backs on diesel these days!
