We offer both where I work. They both have their merits. Service by dropping pans allows you to check the l/r band and replace the filter. Downside is that you don't get all the fluid out of the trans. Service by flush exchanges probably 95% of the fluid. On my personal ride I dropped the pan the first time to inspect, but my second service I did the flush.

Reverse flush wouldn't work with the Dodge. We have a check ball in the line. Our is a fluid exchanger. Add chem, drive, hook up machine, let engine run and exchange fluid. Machine goes inline. Pretty much the same thing we did years ago using a bucket and filling fluid in the dipstick letting it run, but the machine meters the amount of fluid and gets the level close when you're done, or **** close......and yes, on a high mile non serviced trans doing a fluid exchange or regular service can bring up some demons.
