Remote Racor Fuel Filter Question
Remote Racor Fuel Filter Question
Hi All; Well lets start by saying I'm rather sound stupid to people on the forum who don't know me,and have my question answered for free
then to look stupid in front of a diesel mechanic and pay too have question fixed
My truck has a remote racor fuel filter..big sucker the size of a 48 oz juice can[ok not as big but close] between the pump and battery nice and high and easy to get at..... heres the problem how to drain water this one has a bowl on the bottom with a drain line but no[to me ] visable way to open it ..the top or they call it the head has primer pump which is a good thing i think... the instuctions on it say "to prime open release valve and pump that i belive is a7/16 nut in the fitting for the line goin to the old pump location.... to drain open drain valve and pump..... the filter says open valve and drain or if eqip with primer /relief valve hold in while pumping water out ......well theres nothin to hold in just the pump thing anyway somebody must have one of these help
ps maybe just the filter is racor not the unit????

Sorry, my work truck has a Davco and it's different than the Racor. You might want to ask a moderator to move this to general diesel where more of the guys with big-truck knowledge will see it.
Racor
Fishin' fever : my Racor 225R has a valve at the bottom of the bowl. Has yours been plugged or is there nothing there period.? I've always had a gallon can with fresh diesel in it when I change mine. Just drop the bowl, clean it out. Replace filter (?) then before screwing bowl back on fill it a bit with diesel and install. The hand pump tops it off. You can start it actually without hand pumping it but it'll blubber for awhile until the filter gets pressurized.
Hey Jive 55 thanks for reply but no valve on bottom [just drain and water sensor lead]... from the racor website I'm almost posstive its a 400 series they have the pump on top and best quess from the 3 choices is the 490 info says self draining on the web but as stated on post conflicts with the head instuctions which conflict with the filter instructions so i'm confused
Have requested tread be moved to general site but .......no go
