Any truck with a build date earlier than 01/01/04 will be a 2004. Any truck assembled after that date will be a 2004.5. Any truck prior to 01/01/04 has the HO 305 HP motor All 04.5, 05 have the 325 HP, and a cat, resonator, 3rd injection event..... Look on the inside door sticker to see the assembly date, mine is 09/03

and a '98.5 (12v/24v) and a '91.5 (non-intercooled/intercooled). The .5 designation usually indicated a major change in the middle of a model year.

Isn't there also a 2002.5? After the first of the year didn't they change the front axle to being a non-CAD vs. CAD (2002 and below)?

There was a 91 and a 91.5 to , made it a real pain for parts . Some parts were 91 some 92 it was always a hit and miss problem for me . One had a precooler and one didn't , the early one had a little more power with out precooler .

At some point yes they did switch. Never heard them called 02.5, I thonk they just switched because they ran out of old parts. I don't think there are a lot of non CAD 2 gens.
