Question for the Allison Experts

I am currently looking at school buses for a future project, and I have found a few of them with the good ole 5.9 Cummins and an Allison (Mostly 545) tranny in them. How much power can I put to the transmission before I need to worry about grenading it?

an at545 is not recommended for high horespower apps, i kinda remember a stock 545 only being rated for 250 horse max.
