Question about Duramax MPG

any Duramax owners out there? I got offered to trade for an '05 Chevy auto with 58,000 miles for 9,000 difference. I really miss the chevy ride and comfort but I am not sure I should trade. The Dodge is paid off so I am not sure I want to borrow money right now. I wasn't planning on trading but I was talking to a buddy of mine (he thinks he wants my truck) and then he told a salesman that I might want to trade next thing you know I am considering it. I just wanted to know what I might expect for MPG verus the Dodge at a constant 16 mpgs. Maybe I am crazy I don't know, any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

last weekend I went to the mountains (about a 650 mile trip) and averaged 19.15, probably 100 or more of it was very curvy steep mountain roads. don't think you'll do to much better in a Chevy, just my opinion.

With the d-max in my sig I see a consistent 16-17 with 50/50 city highway (usually always hauling something, sometimes really heavy.) The only time I was able to calculate straight highway was fully loaded with camping gear and some PA hills and I got 20.4 all hand calculated.

My boss has a early 07' d-max crew cab 2500 4x4 w/ the allison and it just hit 20k miles. He only gets 10-12 mpg and he drives it very easy. He recently ordered a hypertech programmer that they say will give him up to 5 extra mpgs, havent got it yet so dont know for sure. He has drove only chevys for over 20 yrs and hates this new truck, he has to make it last for two years before he can trade. When he trades he said he is switching to a cummins, hes fed up with the d-max. Thats just one persons opinion, look around and talk to other people before you make your decision. good luck

I have almost 80k on mine and if I drive REALLY EASY cruise control set at 65 on the highway, I can get a good 20mpg. Otherwise, 18, maybe a bit less on the highway. Around town, 15-16 or so. Mixed driving, 16.5-17. Towing, 11-12.

On winter fuel? Forget it! 13 maybe......

My current truck always gets right around 17. My old 2006 gmc would get 18.5 all the time, but that was with the stock 245 tires. I hate the small tank on the gm's though.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I will keep my Dodge for now and the wife said I could buy a few things for it instead. I hate to go back in debit until I get a better paying job.

Good choice Moaggie! Wise decision. My dads 04 duramax gets 13 around town and 17 on the highway.
