Preventing Rust

I seen a commercial on tv last night, and it was for a device that fights rust. It runs off of electicity. So I went to the store web site and it did not have a lot of info, only to say that this has been used for over 20 years in salt harvesting and snow removal. It is called Counteract electronic rust protection system. Anyone hear of or have used this type of device before? I will put in the web page so everyone can see it.

Dont wast your money on that electronic rust preventive crap. I got sucked in last year on a unit called Electro Shield. It was sopposed to not quite stop the rust but slow it down greatly. Its a box with two leds that blink away and there is two patches called cathodes that attach to each fender by double sided tape with wires going back to the main box. I researched all the material I could find on the web and it looked good but like any company they are not going to say its no good. A month after I bought this thing [for $147.00 us plus shipping plus taxes] the company went out of buisness. Its still on the truck, the green and red flashing lites remind me of the shafting I got and to be more careful next time something comes along that works wounders. The best way to stop rust is still the good old oil spray once a year..........

that will either pervent cathodic corrosion or accelerate it.

The theory sounds like when you put dissimilar metals together, you get a voltage (very small voltage) but you combine that with a saline solution and it will rust and corrode. If you supply a voltage to either counter act that small dissimilar voltage or you completely drown it out with a higher voltage, then you will have the corrosion in other places like your sacrificial bar.

Rust

I have noticed that Dodge doesn't really care about underbody corrosion. I am going to spray my u-joints, drive shaft, calipers & hubs with a rust converter then apply undercoating. Also anywhere you see a bolt in the frame the paint is dinged to the metal by tool marks.

You caould do the same thing as a lot of saltwater boats use. A sacraficial anode. Put a couple of blocks of zinc on around the truck. They will corrode before you truck will.

But that only works if you keep your CTD completely submerged in Salt Water.

Not quite. Salt water acts as an electrolyte which speeds up the galvanic reaction. But zinc will have the same effect if it was put on a truck frame. The reaction will not happen near as fast as it would in salt water, but it would still react.

You can buy zincs from any commercial fishing supply store for reasonably cheap. We put them on our crabpots to keep them from rusting, and submerged they last a long time.

Apparently "Bull Sneeze" can be used to coat your undercarriage?

I searched for it on my favorite gopher, I couldn't find it. Must be really new on the market.
