Old Toyota 1.8L Diesel?

I found an old '85 Toyota Camry for sale pretty cheap... it has the old 1C 1.8L (1839cc) turbodiesel with about 180k miles on it. The turbo siezed so I'd have to replace that.

I was wondering if anybody knows anything about these motors... are they any good, what kind of power they made, etc, etc? Not sure if it's worth my trouble.

Thanks!

Rob

5-spd or automatic? Brother in law bought an automatic (really rare car) and it was also an '85. Truth be told, it wasn't worth the effort. It smoked enough to clear all mosquitos in the county, was slow, hard to start, and finally it overheated and the head cracked at 170k. It sat for a year and someone bought it, replaced the head, and still drives it around Durham, NC.

I guess it depends on how much you like the car, if you can find parts, and if it's basically free to start with. Really wasn't up to Toyota standards of quality, even for the day.
