Oil by the 5 gal Pail
Who buys oil by the 5-gal pail? I'd love to do this, but I think it would be a huge hassle to deal with.
With a 55gal drum, you can get a transfer pump and pump things out just fine.
But what about a 5-gal bucket? It's too big to pour out, it's too small to be "bulk".
The oil I want to try is only sold by the qt or by the 5-gal bucket.
How do I handle the 5-gal buckets of oil? Anyone doing this?

You could get one of those plastic syphon hand pumps, I got one from sears for my kerosene heater. Or get an empty 5 gal pail and put a tap/spigot on it near the bottom, or in the lid and lay it on it's side.

That's the problem. I still have to get the oil into another container, which is not only a hassle, but makes contamination more likely.
I like being able to crack open a sealed container and pour it right in, but I hate all the extra packaging and environmental residue of qt size bottles.
Imo, 1-gal pkgs are ideal, but not all companies offer that.

The only problem with those pumps is that it takes forever to empty a 5 gal pail with one. I think I would buy a couple 2.5 gal plastic gas cans and a large mouth funnel first.
Going to try a 55 gallon drum next...
My oil jobber doesn't let drums sit around for longer than one year then sends them back. I go though about three drums of Delo per year, they even have a use by date stamped on the drum.
When pouring the oil from the 5 gal container into another container be sure to rotate the bucket so the pouring spout is on the top. This will eliminate the oil belching for air, and less mess!
I just changed the oil in a 6.9 and was able to pour the oil right out of the bucket without spilling, using a funnel of course.
