Odd Trade In Question
Odd Trade In Question
Anyone ever heard of a dealer cutting a check to you if you trade in a truck that's worth more than the purchase?
Since the day I bought my 05 I have been wanting a 98 12v or an 01 or 02. The 05 just isn't much fun to drive.
I had a 95 previously and I dearly miss the days of being able to black out an intersection or make everyone roll up their windows as I drive by. The thing was fast, too.
If there was enough money in the budget for both, believe me, I'd have my toy already but sadly, I can only have one or the other. What should I do?

Yep, I've done a very similar thing.
Traded in a one year old Duramax, that was paid for, on an 03 Toyota Sequoia. I actually wanted to finance part of the Toy so I put 15K down and walked out with a 17,000 dollar check from the dealer. They didn't much care for it because it means they have to back up what they are giving you for the trade instead of just showing you X amount of dollars for it.

I traded my Nissan Titan in on a Chrysler LHS and they cut me a check for $12,000 and didn't think twice. I don't know how much they made on the car but they ended up making about $2k on the truck so I wouldn't see why not if the dealership can afford to do it. The thing is though when cutting you a check they are probably not going to give you anymore than what they could pick it up for at a dealer auction.
Why trade in?
Could you get more selling it yourself to private party. Dealers steal enough of our hard earned money. Don't make it too easy for them. Plus it's easier to haggle with cash in your pocket.
