General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Number one diesel

Searched but couldn't find anything (that 3 word min makes it a PITA sometimes) Read some previous dussion that there was no problem running #1, that was what was around last night so I filled up with it (was +.03 from truck stop accross town) I noticed a big difference in smoke right away (not a bad thing when in town) my question is should I be adding a fuel treatment for lubricity (sp?) if running this fuel TIA

Yes- If you are running #1, you should most definately put some Stanadyne/PowerService, etc.. because #1 will not lubricate your VP44 as well as #2. You will probably notice a drop in your MPG also. -Steve

Diesel #1 is essentially the same thing as Kerosene. It's only typically to be used to cut #2 down in the winter in respect to gel points. It has less power(btu's) per gallon so your mileage and HP will suffer. It also has less lubricity as mentioned above, so I would recommend adding a lubricity additive pronto. Biodiesel would work really well!

Lightman said it all. We blend #1 d/o for winter blend as we are loading at the pipeline. Depending on how cold it gets as to the % . The only time I load straight load of # 1 (kerosene) is for heating oil stored at our bulk plant & distributed by our local bob tail drivers. I would use straight #1 in a pinch to get me home but would not put it in my truck purposely.

Thanks guys, got some Power Service additive and putting it in on the heavy side, I'll run it down to 1/2 tank or so and fill back up with #2
