General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Check out this link, even if you dont understand Spanish!!
I just got back from Chile abut two months ago and we had a Nissan diesel truck similar to this one we rented from Hertz. Ours was 2wd drive but talk about a power horse!! We were 8000ft altitude and it was amazing how that thing would climb. We also had a Toyoto hilux gas pick up. The Nissan could be in 4th climbing a mountain while the Toyoto was struggling in 2nd. If the ever offer them here in the states I hope tho have one.

Its trucks like those that make me hate the EPA. I'd sure love to get my hands on an Australian Nissan diesel. They have the 2.5, 3.0 and 4.5 motors over there. I wonder if the Aussies are bombing their diesels like we do?

I wonder if the EPA is working for the Saudis? The only efficient vehicles sold are in Oz, Brasil and EU. Who needs more than a 5.9? Really, come on. How many people actually use their trucks to haul anything? Not many is my guess. Everytime I see a diesel pickup, even where I live, that's not a farm truck, has a single driver or two in the front, no gear, no camper behind and going like the devil was chasing them.

Get real. If you wanna save money from going to OPEC, get a more efficient vehicle. Why is it that in the EU, they've had diesel Grand Cherokees, Sprinters, Caravans and Liberty models for YEARS! Nearly half of all vehicles sold over there are diesels. Not big engines, small engines that work more efficiently, with higher cetane. Commercial trucks use CNG/diesel and have for many years.

Wake up America, the EPA is not your friend.

That's why the price of diesel is so high - because of the overseas demand . If half the vehicles here were diesels it would cause the price of diesel to go even higher . What's the point of paying more to have a diesel engine in a small vehicle when gasoline costs 30 cents a gallon more than diesel ?

Also all of Africa, South America, Asia, Let's see Just about everywhere but North America. Part of the problem is the small market for them in the US. Yes, everyone on here would like to see them, but that is not enough sales volume to make the EPA emmissions battle worth it to the. The majority of Americans do not want a vehicle with a small engine. Look at the Tundra, Titan, etc. They couldn't sell enough small trucks with small, fuel effecient engines so they kept putting bigger and bigger V-6's into them until the mileage was bad enough to just make a bigger truck.
Plus I still lay a major part of the blame on GM. During our last gas crisis they came out with a really pathetic gas conversion. Anyone remember the 350 diesel. What a powerless, troublesome beast.
Everyone remembers the small diesels in little trucks back in the early 80's. A lot of them are still running. They didn't quit making them. They just quit selling them here because there was no market. They sold them everywhere else in the world and just kept improving on the power.
One of the most crazy is that an Isuzu Rodeo can be bought with a diesel engine all over the world. Here's the crazy part. They are all built in Indiana, yes Indiana, but all the diesels are exported.
One good thing about high gas prices is that it will make people look for vehicles with better economy. Let's just hope that the EPA will lighten up. How about if it passes emission's in the EU then it's good enough for here.
OK end of Rant.
