New truck

Currently I tow with a 06 2500 4X4 5.9 I'm at or above my GVWR at times but not above GCWR or payload. I'm considering moving to a 3500 and found two as follows: 07 3500 Mega Cab 5.9L 4X4 or a 08 3500 SLT 4X4 with the 6.7L. I also could move to a new 2010, but the cost is more than I would want to spend. So, which one 07 or 08?

Some things to consider when looking at these trucks.
1. The Mega cab will weight more then the Crew Cab is the 08 a Mega Cab?
2. Are they auto's or stick? If the 6.7L is a stick, I have read the dual mass flywheel has had issues. The 68RFE auto trans is way way better then the 48 or 47 model trans that is offered in with the 5.9L engine.
3. The 5.9L engine is emission equipment free such as the DPF/EGR system and EGR cooler. There is a EGR system on the 5.9L but is designed different. This seems to be a non issue on the 5.9L engine.
4. The 6.7L has a integral exhaust break on the VGT turbo, where one has to be added to the 5.9L engine.
5. What is the cost difference and how many miles are on the trucks?
I would make a spread sheet and try to determine what are your requirements and then go from there.
Just My $0.02.
Good Luck

Thanks Jim,
FYI they are both automatics, the 08 I don't believe is a mega cab just SLT Quad Cab. Milage on the 07 is 35k and on the 08 is 128mi. The 07 is 5k less than the 08.

Are they dual rear wheel? The 2500 and 3500 single rear wheel were not much different.

As noted the Mega Cab will weigh more and down your capacity.

1)Do you mainly use the truck to tow?
2)Do you mind pulling off the emissions junk if it becomes problematic?
3)You have the mods you need for the 5.9, I'd consider getting it and swapping everything over.... exhaust brake, module, gauges.

I think the tank and hitch will work on both the 07 and 08?

The 07 Mega 5.9 is kinda rare and a nice conversation piece.

The 08 is brand new? The quad cab long bed is a better suited to pulling a 5th wheel if you don't need to passenger space.

The SLT seat is uncomfortable if you are coming from a laramie though but can be modded.

If you do decided to go with a 6.7 '08 is the best year for them.
