General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Somebody posted this recently. If I recall it was their 6"x6" 42 hp rotory diesel. Looks promising and I hope we will see more diesel innovation to come

Sorry, I must have missed it. It really sounded interesting. I saw something about this on TV and they said generally speaking it takes 3 to 5lbs to make a hp and with this it's 1:1. Sounds promising for fuel economy. I wonder if the oem's are looking at this potential.

My first reaction was, the emissions behaviour of this vane type engine may prove to be a little poor since there are square cornered, dead pockets in the combustion chambers that won't get swept as well. Saying that, the MYT engine's combustion chambers (posted elsewhere) look a little bit more "spherical" compared to the rotary regtech engine. That would allow a better "swirl" in a curved cylinder than in a curved rectangular box.

Wasn't that one of the drawbacks with the Mazda Wankel engine? Somewhat narrow combustion chamber pockets that increased emissions?

Like the Wankel engine, this one will suffer from the same problems of getting the vanes to seal and getting the seals to last.

I don't see much advantage to this engine in terms of friction and volumetric efficiency probably isn't all that great either.

My guess is this is one guys idea and he's trying to sucker people into investing. It probably will never go into production.

Here is a new add on to this one, video of the engine being "run".

Great, so all I need to do is install a Hi-torque electric powered lathe in my engine compartment to keep it turning so I can watch the pretty flames shoot out the exhaust ports.

nope, you will need a good sized drip pan as well, otherwise people might think you had a blue oval parked in your drive.......

Hey come on now! Proof of Concept - I think this is pretty cool. If I remember correctly, the wankel's seal problems were contributed more to revving and shock loads than to steady running. This would be a great way to create diesel/electric hybrids. Great effiecency due to interia and no risk of flying parts (al la turbine).

I agree with that. Anyone look at how crude the Wright Bros engine was? A rag for a carb and put out six h.p. I was just reading about the wankle history the other day. After changing the seal material most of the chatter issues went away. Every thing will have its growing pains. I will be keeping an eye on this project though. I have several projects that I could use it in.
