Hello,

I just found you guys. I have a '75 Dodge dually, crewcab, 4x4 pickup truck. It has sheetmetal from a '93 bolted on. It's currently powered by a 440 hooked to a torqueflite, but the gas mileage is killing me, so I'm looking to do an engine swap to a 24 Valve CTD. Any comments or questions are welcome.

I just wanted to say that is one sharp looking 1st gen truck. You will find a welth of knowlege here and I am shure you will find all the help you need to do the swap... just to get my first suggestion out of the way.... I would go with a 12v. The swap will be much easier and cheeper with the mechanical fuel pump. 12v's also get better milage than a 24v's. I would also consider a tranny swap... either a 47RE or 6speed if you wanted a standard.

Personaly I would go with the 12v their louder and easier to maintain and bomb!!!! Now some will like the 24 so they might beat me up on this one Ha Ha Goodluck,,,,Rick

WELCOME.....the combined knowledge on this site is nothing short of incredible.

The advice I have for you is to go with a 12V Cummins....they are more reliable, dont have the fuel delivery problems that the 24V's do, aremore easily bombed (having a 440 Im certain you are into performance) and you wont have to mess around with the electronics that the 24V engines require. Just my opinion - others may have a different view though.

Thanks for the welcome and for the headsup on the 12V. I'm just dipping my toes into trucks right now. What trans do the 12V's use?

I bought the beast to haul my Road Runner to the track.

 

The '89 and '90 trucks used a 727 with 3.07 or 3.54 axles, so you might be able to use your trans, but you would need to change your valve body and torque converter to diesel ones. If you have 4.10 axles, you would want 518 or 47rh trans.

An '89 to '93 12V with a rotory injection pump would be the easiest swap especially if you can find a parts truck.

But the 1994-1998 B series (with the P7100 injector pump) are more condusive to adding performance mods....
