and about the 318, mine is a like a tank, slow and stout. i have yet to break it and have let it run hot on several occasions (busted freeze-plug), revved it up around 6K, and just dogged on it. it never complains!

The 6.7 is not for 2500s and regular 3500s at least for 2007 according to DCX. It is for the chassis cab. The 2500s and regular 3500s do not get all those options (big fuel tank, straight frame, etc.) you're talking about...thats all for the HD chassis cab. It is downrated probably for durability since this is a work truck expected to get pounded on everyday but people who don't give a hoot about it.

The 6.7 is the only engine Cummins will have during 2007 that meets on road emissions. All 2500/3500 trucks will have to start using it 01/01/07 to meet emissions. The first few 07's made (made through end of 2006) can and probably will use up the remaining 5.9s in the pipeline.
I expect a re-tuned 6.7 to be into the 07.5 trucks with the new 68RE tranny. I notice the Cummins website shows a 350 HP / 700 FT/LB option for the new 6.7.
If they came out with the 6.7 mated to the rumored 79REM tranny (electro-mechanical, think paddle shifters ala F1 cars), I'd have to go get me one I think. Otherwise my emissions device free 2003 will last me a long time.

I doubt Dodge would ever put a cummins in a 1500 because they know some moron will think he can tow anything and overload such a light truck and hurt himself or others.
