NC State Surplus 96 Ram Diesel

If anyone is interested there is a 96 2500 Cummins 4X4 lwb conventional cab listed on the NC state surplus property webpage.

http://www.ncstatesurplus.com/ssp/pu...24/2004&type=1

It might make somebody a good project truck or knock around truck. I am not affiliated with NC Surplus, just passing along information.

Bill

If it's white, I wouldn't touch it.
the state bought many for use as "Roving Patrol" for DOC. These trucks idled for days at a time, never reving above idle and never going above 10mph exept when making a fuel run once a day to the local DOT, which in alot of cases is next door to the prison.
Pasquotank CI where I worked had 2 rams and a PS, they all had their problems.

You never know. With a little blowing out, it could be an awesome truck. Our 97 3500 w/ 340K mi at work is worn out, drove hard put up wet, toted a load more than it is manufactured to tote many of times, and is still an awesome truck. Each and every truck is different.

These trucks started having problems at less than 60k. It would be the same as starting a new truck and letting it sit in the driveway and idle for a week or two at a time. The ONLY time the accelerator is touched is the fuel run once every night. Other than that, it is in 1 or 2 gear.

The truck has over 100k miles on it. I don't think it sat around idling too much. This didn't come from DOC

I wonder what this means then? "DOC-Trans & Comm"
when I worked for Pasquotank in '99-'00, the 96s and 97s already had over 60,000 miles each.
they don't "sit" idling. they are put into first gear and idled around the prisons 24/7. never put into 4wd, seats are worn out, drinks spilled everywhere, 6 different people in the truck for 4 hours a day each. Heck one of them even had the a custom sunroof put in by a monkey that was messing around with the shotgun...

Enyone else check into this truck?? I would love to know more about it, problem is that it is a long ways away from me, which is good and bad. Thats because it means no winters, but it would cost alot for me to look at. just thinking out loud, or on the keyboard or ?

If you go look at it, check for holes in the floor between the seats or on the tranny hump. That's where the perimeter monitoring system and the guns are mounted on a rover truck

Probably Transportation & Communication. This may be the dept in charge of surplusing it rather than the one that used it.

Good stuff for auction here at times> http://www.nfc.usda.gov/propexcs/fsg.htm
