General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Ive had two dakotas, both stds, and neither had a tach. My two cherokees, both stds, do not have tachs. My 6 '72-'93 full size dodges are all autos and do not have tachs. Though my tan '93 150 has an aftermarket column mounted tach i installed.

Others i know of:
'95 chevy 1/2 ton, std, has tach
'92 accord, std, has tach
'96 civic, auto, has tach
'95 camry, std, has tach
'01 Mercedes Kompressor, std, tach
'95 and '92 accliams, both autos, no tachs
'89 Yamaha Phazer sled, has tach

In ending, i guess more of the foreign jobs have them than our US stuff

I agree what was mentioned before: it's about options. If you buy a vehicle that's all loaded up, it comes with the "deluxe" transmission (automatic) and the "deluxe" cluster (lots of gauges). If you buy a basic vehicle with no options, it comes with the cheaper transmission (manual) and the cheaper cluster (just a speedo and some idiot lights). Does it make sense? Only to the manufacturers' bean counters who have the biggest say in how the car is equipped when built.

I have a 91 S-10 p/u .. It is the "Tahoe Package" with the nicer interior and power everything. It is a 4.3 V6 and it has always baffled me as to why it has no tach.
