Mileage Improvements?
I just bought this truck and got a really good deal on it. However, it has the 4.10 gears and I really wanted the 3.55. I don't do any pulling or heavy hauling, mostly commuting back and forth to work. I'm not sure what kind of mileage to expect, but I have roughly calculated about 15-16 mpg average. Is this normal, and if not what can I do or check to get better mileage. I did the valve adjustment last weekend and it quieted down a little but not sure it helped the mileage. I was wondering if getting taller tires/wheels would help much, and how much bigger I should go. What do you all think...........thanks.
I know one guy with a 2001 and 4.10's. His mileage is like yours too. I think his best is 17. My 2003 has 4.10's and I usually get lowwwwww 20's. My wife gets 18-19. But on the highway doing 75 it drops to about 17. I wanted to change my gears to 3.73, but it's way to expensive. So I'll stay with what I have for now. SInce there are so many Dana axles out there, I bet your swap would be cheaper to do.
