I have an air fitting like that tapped into an old fuel cap that I use to trace fuel system leaks and to fill the filter and purge air from the system after a filter change or other work.
Haven't used the primer button in over a decade.

If it was punched down the neck I would think it would lodge somewhere in the filler neck.

You could easily MIG an electrical "reducer" washers or a disk of expanded metal of to the end of the filler neck to prevent anything from entering the tank, I would engineer it as to not too restrictive for when I am refueling.

I would set up a camera and booty-trap the tank.

As I recall my anti rollover protection had an inner door that you push open with the fuel nozzle. I don't think it was pushed in as they would not be able to get a hose down. The pipe appears clear all the way down to the tank. I will have to check it better. I believe the whole guts was removed. Not sure how that was done.

I have been thinking similar for a fix. Will try to fix soon. Truck has been running good so no damage done other the filler neck.

I am going to look for a camera before heading down there again. I also have a booby-trap in mind too.

This actually sounds more like a fill pipe for an Unleaded vehicle where the narrower nozzle has to depress the flap to enter the fill pipe.

Get us a picture of it when you get the chance.

I knew a person who had a Class-A motorhome and he had his fuel stolen so he somehow connected his fill pipe to the black holding tank, he found the hose, cans and trails of vomit leading from the side of the bus.

There are always ways to protect your property.

I'm telling you guys right now...

A locking fuel cap will not stop anyone from getting your fuel. You're better off alarming your truck, or sleeping in the bushes next to it. If they can't siphon it, they're going to drill it, and then you're replacing a tank.

Better off letting them siphon it
