Lefty loosey, righty tightey
Well, when you're reaching over your head and using your non-dominant hand, sometimes you forget little things like that...
This is what happens when you put 1/8 turn INTO an already tight drain plug trying to remove it... Of course, I didn't notice the crack until I had finished the oil change, and had filled the case. So, little by little, 11 quarts of my favorite Mobil product was drip-drip-dripping away.
Fortunately, AutoZone had a replacement!! I was able to change it only losing about 1 quart... (though every drop of that quart was down my arm though
)
Oh well, if you can't laugh at yourself, then who can you laugh at?

Next time hook a vacuum cleaner up to the oil fill spout with duct tape when your wife isn't looking. No oil will come out the drain and none will be sucked into the vacuum (try telling that to the wife) If you are using a vacuum that doesn't suck well the blowby will need to be blocked also, screwdriver handle works.
I use this method every once in a while when someone looses the plug sealing washer in the drain pan but installs the plug anyway.
Never experienced it but have heard if you use this method on a gasser that the vacuum can blow up due to gasoline fumes in the crankcase.

I just remember that if the position changer thingy on the ratchet is pointed right, it's loosening. If it's pointing left, it's tightening. That or counter clockwise is loosen and clockwise is tighten.
