knowledge vs. money
knowledge vs. money
if you don't already know, i am a technician at a Chevy-Buick dealership. i love my job to say the least. i always get heat to buy a "dreamamax" which would come with an unreal amount a month truck payment that i couldn't even dream of affording. i am just glad to know that i have the knowledge to know when a truck is a truck and that price is not the determining factor in judging trucks. a new "duraminimum" exactly like my truck--regular cab 4x4 with auto trans would cost $41,000! [*EDITED*] . i paid a measly $10,000 bucks for my flawless very well taken care of used truck and i am happier than a pig in slop with it, i love my truck. it will out- lug a high winding duramax, and out-pull one also with a load because it is a truck [*EDITED*] not a drag racer, and it seems the only thing the salesmen at work have to say about the new d-max is "it'll eat that cummins up for lunch in a race" big deal that is why i have my 71 chevy 2wd street truck, it'll eat up whatever i want it to cuz that is what i built it to do, go fast!!! i bought a cummins for fuel economy, durability, and power. we have not had one new d-max that can get 22 mpg like my '96 will get. short
so to make a long story short,,,, i am glad that i am smart enough to drive a real diesel truck instead of being rich enough to drive a d-max.. i'll take knowledge over $$$ any day of the week.

[*Edited for language*]

Gottahavediesel - you are basically indirectly insulting all of us 3rd gen owners who did spend comparable dollars to a Duramax. I can agree it's good you know the Cummins is a better choice, but it's inaccurate to paint a picture that people are either smart or they are rich.
I'm with Forrest, both is certainly ideal
All knowledge and no money doesn't help much. That's like being a homeless physician, and having intimate knowledge of what's going on in your body as you starve to death in an alley

knowledge isn't just about knowing facts about trucks, it's about sense. I know guys who can rattle off every stock clearance spec for a 302 ford off the top of their heads, but they are completely lost when they are put into the mix with comparing lots of different makes of cars. It's like they only know one thing, and they automatically think it's the best.
I'm not trying to inseingnuate anything, but I think you're referring to having common sense in your situation. Buying a diesel pig for the reason it was made for, not to drag race. nawmean?

I don't see it that way at all. I'm sure the guy gets "E" plan pricing and can probably get a D-Max for less money than the Dodge. That said, the guy is passing up a great opportunity for new wheels to drive an 8 or 9 year old Dodge. He just missing a great audio system the guys and me put in that there Chebby.

They're pretty good by the way.
Dad and his wife recently purchased a 2005 Tahoe and a 2004 SSR.

Have you guys ever noticed if somebody is cutting people off, tailgating, and speeding, they're probably driving a chevy of some sort? I've noticed that. It's like they feel the desire to race everywhere. All they're doing is racing their $$$ outta their wallets due to the lead foot.
Like I've said before, gasser minds think alike...they all base the quality of an engine/tranny on how fast it'll go. They don't care about what it'll haul, but if it'll get to 100 mph in 15 seconds it MUST be able to haul good too!

yep, until you race them. A kid follows me part of the way home every day from school in his RCSB 4.8L silverado. I love to race him. Its fun to see him get beat at half throttle.

I (not bragging just fact) can afford any vehicle made. I choose to keep my "99" becuase I love the body style(rear doors open backwards), performance, dependability, and the challenge of putting 250K miles on a truck that I maintain myself.
Maybe there is anythere side of the story? Dumb with money?

Tell them you will hook a new duramax of the same configuration as your truck. When you drag that thing across the lot into the service bay, i dont imagine they'll be hardly so quick to say it will outrun you
. Just lock it in 4lo, pull her down in 1st, and let the governor, and straight pipe do the rest. Also, have some potential buyers of D-Max's there to witness it all
