General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Just a thought.

Does the computer measure essential paramaters like EGT, Tranny temp, boost, etc etc. If so does anyone know if they can be extracted through the OBD-2 port. I know VW and some other vehicles can interface a laptop to the port and extract info when the car is off as well as track information, performance paramaters, through the OBD-2 port. Just a Thought.

Trans temp yes, but EGT no. Boost yes, but their base starts at 14psi (some models start at 0 depends on years) because of barometric pressure. Coolant temp yes, there are several hundred things they monitor. Unfortunately getting that info from the OBDII port #1 is kind of expensive for the programming and #2 not 100% real time. The ECM determines which parameters are "important" and they are only updated to the OBDII port at certain intervals. You may actually be seeing old info from the ECM.
