John Deere forums

anyone know any good JD forum.

we keep having problems with our 99 JD 8300 tractor
IT doesnt start up, anytime without ether!
it idles up and down and up and down
and lacks power!

it has the EDC injection pump (inline) with the electric controled Governor.

We've been thtough lots of computer stuff, except the inj pump, i wonder if it need a rebuild, (plungers & barrels,) or the governor only?...

New JD tractors have a horrible reputation around here. As well as the dealer. We have a fairly good size feed lot and try and stick with mechanical deisels if we can. I see all kinds of tractors that are 50 years old and older running around that are simply amazing considering that they run and do what they do. Can you envision your 8300 being even close to operable in 50yrs? A good question to ask your self. There are alternatives just as long as your not stuck on the gadgetry, and even if you are you can put it in a Big Bud and be way way farther ahead.

well it turned out to be the injector pump.

we let the local inj shop rebuild it, all new plungers and new barrels, made it start like a champ, and brought it back to its stock power level

costed me 1500 bucks!

and the JD power punchs arrived now also! 4 brand new boxes for 415 bucks
the price on each box is $519, our luck

I noticed the same thing when I had my injection pump rebuilt.
However, I purchased it with low power so I never had anything to compare the loss of power to.
The 'ol girl had noticeably more power after the injection system had been freshened up.... then the engine blew.
