Jeep Diesel Question

I have an opportunity to buy a 2.1L turbo diesel made by renault. It was originally removed from a Jeep Cherokee. Does any one have any experience with this engine or a swap with the 4L that is currently in my Cherokee? Will the diesel bolt up to the AX15 tranny and will it take the same enfine mounts? Also will the drive shafts have to be modified? Any input would be greatly apprecoated. Thanks in advance.

1st off, your going to hate this motor... while it makes about the same torque as the old 4.0L, the HP is crippled, and your going to run out of rev's real quick, so gearing is a must. If you still want to run with the idea, you'll need to call NOVAK, or Advanced Adapters, and get a custom tranny adapter, because it will not bolt up (if this is a european engine). Next, break out the plasma cutter, welder, and probably all the metal fab tools you have, because your going to need to fab up some beefy motor mounts, and weld them to the frame, bolts might break with the torque off idle. Driveshafts might still line up in the rear, but your front may have to get chopped or at least have your T-case clocked to clear the new motor.

If your not discouraged yet, a new radiator, fans, and shroud will be needed along with a tank, fuel system, and new front springs to support that weight.

But if you really love that diesel smoke, go for it! I've seen a few with the 4BT in em' and there cool as hell, but all are trail only rigs due to speed.

Thanks a lot. I think I'll stick to the 4.0. As much as I love diesel smoke, I'm also lazy. If it was a straight swap I'd do it. Thanks again.
