Its got an 8.3 and a allison

i was at a all day brief yesterday, and a civillian disastor worker was there. we were eating outside and he remarked about my truck, and as did i to his. he had what looked like an 01 or 02, 3/4 qc, lb w/ and auto and 4wd. he told me he had a 8.3 and an allison put in it from the "dealarship/buddy". i asked him to pop the hood, and to my amazement sat what looked like a 5.9. the valve cover was the same as my 02 as well as turbo, exhaust manifold, vp44, injector lines, lp on the left rear of engine. i crawled under the truck and there sat a 47re? im guessing. it did have a deep trans pan though. i guess what im asking, is that does the 8.3 look the same. the last one i have seen was in iraq on some old army 5 tons we gave to the iraqi's. those ones were all mechanical and looked somewhat larger than the 5.9. nothing on the engine looked any diff than the one under the hood of mine. i could be wrong, just wondering if any of yall could answer that for me. im often wrong, but never in doubt.

8.3 is bigger it's a c series tha last one I saw was in a case loader and had a large flat valve cover. sounds like your buddy us pullig your leg. I don't think the vp44 would even kinda work on one anyway.

yea thats wat I was thinking too. I havn't seen one since 2003 but I remember they were fairly large you would have a very hard time fitting one in a dodge.

While an 8.3 is a very similar configuration to the 5.9 and it does appear the same....but it is noticeably larger and what would immediately stick out is that it would be too long to fit in the Dodge engine bay without some visible modifications. As for the tranny, I don't see why the 47RE couldn't bolt to the back of an 8.3....though, I don't know if I would want one on the back of an 8.3.....if it was bombed, anyway.

I agree....he is pulling your leg....it would be very obvious if there was an 8.3 jammed under the hood!

He was dead serious

let me clarify, that guy was not my buddy, he just happened to have a dodge/cummins as well. one thing i did leave out was that he said he had a banks 4" exhaust and pda on order. im pretty dang sure that banks doesnt make stuff for the 8.3's. and he wasnt trying to pull my leg, he was dead serious, so i told him very politely that hey, this is the same engine and trans in my truck. this guy had atleast 10-15 years on me in age, and youd think that he might know a little bit. well i couldnt change his mine so i just walked away. thanks for the input guys.

BS Flag is UP!

The C8.3 is longer, wider, taller, and much heavier than a B5.9. the components ARE all arranged in the same locations on both engines. There is NOT a Vp44 on a C. An allison tranny has ALLISON on the trans pan if I'm not mistaken.

He would have had to manufacture motor mounts, cross member, lower the engine in the bay(to close the hood), upgrade suspension to hold the additional weight, etc.

It would not look like a factory install or even comparable to your truck.

You should have shown him the sticker on the side of the engine with all the info on it. Probbly would have shut him up then. The data plates never lie.

The QSC has a pump that looks like a small shoe box with two electrical connectors going in on the top at the flat part- there's a sign that says something about danger-high voltage- no way to mistake it for a VP44 if you've seen one. The QSC has a valve cover that looks quite like the ISB valve cover (except for size)
The QSC is much bigger than the B, and I wouldn't see any reason to install a C into a dodge truck. The B can be bombed to higher horsepower (the C throws rods at much lower speeds) and the weight would be an issue. The ISBe weight 470kgs dry, the ISCe weighs 690kgs dry.
You can compare them under
http://www.cummins.com/eu/pages/en/p...gines/isbe.cfm for the B-series and
http://www.cummins.com/eu/pages/en/p...gines/isce.cfm for the C-series

I'd like to see a QSK 78 in this truck - I saw one on the stand in the shop at Cummins Austria. I saw no way to shoehorn it into my truck..

I've got a good friennd thats a salesman at a Ford dealership. He told me a story about another salesman that sold a Mustang to a woman and told her that he would have to "order" the other 4 cylinders to make her Mustang a V-8!!!.. He sold her a 4-cylinder Mustang at the GT price with the promise that when the other 4 cylinders came in, he'd call her to get them installed!!!.. Needless to say, the dealership ended up buying that car back when the woman's dad got involved. The salesman had already quit before any of this came to a head... Some salesmen are "less than honest"

I guess this is one of those funny things Dodge owners say....
