Its a good day to own a Dodge...

When I woke up today the temperature was 1*F. The only diesel trucks out on campus today are Dodges.

There is not a single Ford to be seen and all the Ford guys in class are complaining that they can't get their trucks started.

Didn't even plug my truck in this morning and it fired right up.

Few guys asked me to jump them yesterday because they ran their batteries out trying to get their trucks started!

Oh yeah, glow plugs stink compared to grid heaters.......never had a problem with cold weather starts - ever..........if you own a F@*D PS it seems to be a regular problem when it gets really cold...........I had to roll my eyes when my friends PS wouldn't start even when it was plugged in when it was only -20* !.........You can keep your glow plugs, thanks!

my dad's a heavy duty mechanic and he used to joke that if you walked by a ford diesel truck with an icecream cone it wouldn't start

as for the glow plugs sucking, I think it might be something else about the fords that suck cause my mom's VW and my dad's toyota diesel's both use glow plugs and have both been started at -40 without being plugged in as has my CTD (we had a power failure on night, thank god for wood heat)

When he says, "only -20°", you have to look where he's from. He hails from Canada, so he's probably talking about -20°C..... that's only -4°F.

With my old IDI,

I used to have trouble starting it at anything under 40 degrees, it was 31 yesterday, and my cummins fired right up... Glo plugs? NEVER AGAIN!!

I am with TX on this one. I had a 91 IDI and when I would got omy house in Truckee, I would NOT be able to get it started up there. I had to bump start it a few times. I would wait for the light to go off,and then crank away. Now I was up there, and I turn the key on, the light turns off, one crank and I am warming the bastard right up. It does take a while towarm up though.

You guys should be glad you don't live up here. Sunday morning at 0400 there was a 105 degree temperature difference between inside my house and the outside. Just so you know, it was 70 in my house. Not that far from here the temp got down to within 6* of the state record (-60*).
I just keep my truck plugged in.

Been about 12 hours now... Warmed up to 13*F

Most the Ford guys are still without their trucks. Doesn't seem to matter the year, we've got 03s, 02s, 99s, 96, 95 all out of commission.

The one guy that got started has an 89 F250. He used ether. Says he won't turn it off now until it warms up. It's been running all day. He did the same thing last year... ran that thing for 6 days straight.

I was told the big problem with the Ford glow plugs was that the hand warmers on the rear bumpers draw to much power for the glow plugs to get hot enough
