you know, there has been some talk about this lately. the fact that the American dollar is losing its value, therefore driving the prices up makes sense. but what doesnt make sense is the fact that our salaries/wages remain the same. if diesel hits $3/gallon, increasing 100% from a year ago (assuming diesel was $2/gallon a year ago) then why don't our incomes reflect that as well? thats the hardest thing that i deal with. we pay more, but dont make more!

Paid 2.699 at cenex in Burlington WA today. Same price at Shell. Chevron in Sedro-Woolley was 2.799 last time I looked a few days ago.

Its been a while since I put $90 in the tank..
I coasted into town tonight on fumes...I shudder to think what its gonna cost to fill er up.... This may involve reactivating my line of credit...:

i think alot more people are going to start buying hybrid and electric cars if they keep this up. then they just lose alot more money. i'd be interrested to see why diesel has became more expensive than premium. in the 70's they use to give it away and now it's skyrocketed. it aggravates me that an organization can raise the prices to whatever they want and the government won't do anything about it because they know we are going to buy it. why don't the government give us a break and brop the tax on fuel a little bit to help the comsumer

I don’t think they would drop the taxes even if it hit 5.00 a gallon that’s there money for their retirement. But I just heard on the news today that that bush is suppose to announce his plan to "corral" the prices. but I don't think it will drop it much. There is just too much demand and too little refinement these days. for the first time the resaon its going up is not because of a lack of crude its a lack of refinement.

i saw on TV where the government was thinking about taxing vehicles by the miles driven. supposedly, the gov't feels they are losing money to the hybrid/electric vehicles because these cars dont consume large quantities of fuel therefore not producing a lot of income for the gov't through taxes.

My dad retired from an oil refinery as a master machinist. He helped build the last oil-gas refinery built in the us. 25+ years ago. Don't matter how much oil we have if the tree huggers won't let them build more refineries.

In point of fact, petroleum products are commodities traded, among other places, on the New York Merchantile Exchange (NYMEX). As such, the market sets the price of the commodities. HERE are today's quotes - note that #2 diesel appears as home heating oil - these prices are exclusive of taxes FOB the location shown.

I should stop complaining here is Colorado. Prices last week were 1.99 and jumped up to 2.19. I guess that isn't that bad compared to the most of you guys. Might have to invest in a locked fuel cap before the trip to CA.

Treehuggers have nothing at all to do with it. The oil companies realize it's a stupid move to build a billion dollar plant that's used to process a dwindling resource. Pay back on building a refinery is over ten years, will they even make enough volume in ten years when consumption drops due $100+ per barrel oil?
If they thought it was worthwhile they could build the refineries over the border in Mexico and pipe fuel in to beat the regulations, it's been discussed but deemed not profitable.

Oil companies have all wised up and are looking hard at their return on investment, every major oil company has now dropped support for drilling in the Arctic Refuge because the numbers don't pan out, yet Bush wastes congress' time pushing for a false dream.

Face it, it's the fact of a finite resource, it can only get more expensive, I remember being warned it was coming forty years ago.

If you can't afford to drive an empty pickup around perhaps it's time to switch to an compact.

Dollar devaluation due to the massive deficit is part of the problem, nobody wants US dollars that aren't worth much unless they get more of them.

People in Europe pay $3.50 to $5/gal and have been for years. I know our price is going up but we really don't have much room to whine about it..
