I'm looking to come back! Carfax help, anyone?

Well, I've been out of the diesel world for quite a few years now. It was fun back then, but expensive when trying to pay for everything else in life. Now that I'm sitting pretty, I'm considering getting back into it and I'm asking for Carfax help...I know, it's not the most accurate, but I know there was some mechanical damage on this truck and curious what, if anything, shows...anyone wanting to help? VIN is 3D7LS38C85G709503.

Appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Buy the report and post up the details. I thought carfax at one point allowed limited viewing of certain reports, but the only thing that came up was payment options and that there was about 32 reports.

Most of those reports could very well be documented service history and possibly body damage/repairs.

Yeah, I ended up giving in and just ran it...especially when I saw 32 reports. Most ended up being those service reports.

Cool. If you think you will buy it, I would call your insurance to see if it was involved in any accidents. I don't know if they will release or have access to that info, but I think carfax only reports accidents if the damages exceeded a certain amount in repairs.

Be aware that our 2000 Isuzu Trooper sustained $13K+ in damage including a bent frame and had a clean Carfax. Our '05 Pilot sustained 12K and has a clean Carfax. They help but are only as good as the shops reporting the repairs.

This!!

A buddy of mine bought a 1/2 ton truck that had a clean carfax but ended up with bent frame and other damage from a wreck. It was hidden pretty well but was noticed AFTER he bought it and it was on a lift getting other things worked on.

take that vin everywhere you can think of. i went to trade in an old suv, the bank found a lien from the canadian revenue agency. just part of a long list of BS. do you have to put salvage on the title where you are?

Yeah, I did multiple searches on it and understand that Carfax isn't bulletproof. In the end, I found an '03 with fewer miles and in great condition. So, I'm back and loving it!

Congrats on the truck! I really liked my '03.

FWIW, Carfax isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Bought a 2000 Cherokee, carfax was good (but it had obviously been wrecked), registered it and ran the carfax again and it came back having been totaled twice in UT! The previous owner taken it to Oregon where they don't "brand" the titles as "rebuilt/restored", so carfax didn't pick it up until I re-registered it in UT. Oh, and their guarantee is baloney- they cover themselves pretty well with the fine print.
