idle with block heater?

Any of y'all use the block heater with it idleing? I'm wondering because since I let mine idle for 5 to 10 mins in the morning. I'm thinking Block heater + 1000 rpm idle should get the motor blowing hot air right when I jump in instead of waiting till I'm about a mile down the road.

One negative I can think of is that the extension cord is more than likely not long enough to get to where you are going. Of course, this is assuming that you jump in the truck and forget to unplug it before you drive off.

Other than that, I use to do that on my 89 years ago. I would start it up, kick the throttle lock up to about 1200 and go back in the house for about ten minutes. Not saying it is right or recommended but it worked for me.

No problem at all idling with heater plugged in.
Another trick for faster warm up is to leave the heater in the recirculate position so cab air is pulled though the heater core rather than cold outside air.
