I was thinking about buying a chevy, but...

I mean...... good gawd! We're talking about a $$$50k$$$ rig here. I was seriously thinking of getting a gmc instead of a dodge. The interior seems to be higher quality in the gmc (the dodge seems very cheap and plasticy inside), but the cummins has never had anywhere near the problems the duraNOT is having. This is what I found in 5 minutes on the dieselpage:

:'( I thought that the gmc was a pretty nice truck, but .... ??? that motor must cost them about 10 bucks to make?

After reading some of the comments on injectors................ It just says BUY A CUMMNIS!!!! Sure, all mfgs have problems, but look at the overall picture. The "other" two have had and are continuing to have serious problems with reliability. My truck only has 160,000 miles on it and the pump is original and the injectors have never been touched. Seems the only reason to change injectors in the Cummins is to upgrade for more power.

I look at a Chevy Duramax before buying Dodge. I believe the Dodge is better built than GM. My last two trucks where Chevys. I did the same as you, visiting the Dieselpage and that scared me off.
I believe the weak link on the Cummins is the lift pump. But I'm hoping that using additives and Fleetguard filters will decrease the odds of having fuel systems problems.

Re:I was thinking about buying a chevy, but...

I have to agree! My last three trucks were GMCs (2000,2001, and a 2003). After driving the Dodge 2500 CTD, I had to have one. The fit finish (both interior & exterior), handling, styling and reliablity are several steps ahead of GM, and way ahead of Ford. I can't believe how well built this Ram is. I never thought I'd own the new body style Ram as I really disliked the new grill. After driving one, I could care less! I don't even notice the grill any more.

If your still thinking about getting a GM HD, take it over some dips and bumps at moderate speed. That thing will near jounce and bounce out of control. I found my GMC 2500 HD near dangerous on ruff roads. The GM frame also feels flimsy compaired to the Dodge.

It's funny...I've read several complaints about how cheap DC is for doing this or that (like a thin sheet metal in the bed). All I can say is these folks haven't spent much time driving or owning any of the other brands of trucks. My 2500 Ram is far superior in all catagories (okay, except maybe the auto trans, we need a 5-speed!) when compared to any of the other brands, bar none.

All the beds now are paper thin. I know on the Silverados you cannot mount an over the rail toolbox without reinforcing the bed. Stress cracks will develop on the sheet metal. On the Ford Superduties you can bend the tailgate by stepping on it with something heavy.
The only thing GM has going for it is the Allison transmission. But I still prefer the 6spd behind the diesel. ;D

Re:I was thinking about buying a chevy, but...

I looked hard at G.M. and Chevy as I get an Employee discount. ( brother in-law and son in-law work there) The CTD is far and away the better looking in my opinion. I even like the interior better. After 2 G.M. yukon XL's I am happier than ever with my 2500 Ram. When I pull up next to a G.M. the 2500 just looks tougher. Fit and finish is better on the dodge too. I also drove a Powerjoke don't even want to go there its a sorry day but Ford just keeps losing ground to Toyota I think the new rice trucks will take a huge bite out of Ford and that's toooo bad because they been around a long time but you got to have product as they say.
With that said the big draw back to Dodge is the sorry transmission 47re piece of art that is in these trucks come on DC not everybody want's to shift for themselves.
