HP Adders advertisements (do they make it seem too easy?)

Been on another non truck forum lately where a lot of people are saying:
"I got me a new diesel truck, I am gonna' go get a programmer and add 200-300 HP. All I gotta' do hook it up the programmer right?"
Seems to me that a lot of Ads make it seem like all you have to do is hook up a box/programmer and go. Shouldn't they be more forthcoming about what damage you could do to your truck by just turning up the box and going without a clue as to what you are doing? I'm sure it is in the fine print, but it is hard to find (at least the fact that they are not responsible for damage). They should mention that to support all this extra HP, certain precautions (gauges for example) need to be taken and other things should be done first (intake, exhaust, fuel system etc).
Do you agree that alot of TV/Magazine Ads are a bit decieving as to how easy it is to add HP?

Commercials always give you the upside of their product.......

Side effects may include:
dizziness, insomnia, nausea and anxiety. It can also increase blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature.

Yohimbe (an ingredient) should not be taken by anyone with kidney conditions, heart problems, diabetes or stomach ulcers, or in conjunction with antidepressant medications.

. . . . So you're saying the three easy payments of $39.95 for the fuel-line magnet won't net me another 25hp?

Only if you combine it with the turbulance inducer that goes into and restricts your intake.....and don't forget the O-Pipe exhaust.

Ed, I have to admit, I thought for a second there those two products you just mentioned went together.

As far as the thread topic, I feel the same way. I have read through some of the programmers I see on EBay, some are not widely advertised (at least, not here!)
I saw one that was claiming like 235 HP gains (a programmer), after reading through it, it goes on to say "measured at the flywheel".

I had never seen before in the Diesel world. I wonder what the loss is through the trans, driveshaft, universals, rear, etc.?

People that don't research things are just as content being able to buy these products (all the while adding up the "claimed" HP & TQ gains) then go around spouting how they have a 650 HP truck.

Exactly as others have said. It makes the engine that powerfull. Dosen't mean the trans will hold it, the truck, tires drive shaft. Kinda like that Viagra guy (or whatever it was) They were actually after a head ache medicine by phizer, and well that was the result. Nevermind that not only does it work, you could have internal bleeding, chest pain, heart attack. They only tell you the good part, not the bad part.

Like a huge wedding. Best day of your life till you get the bill.

I think a lot of companies (even reputable ones that we all use) get away with saying a device adds "65hp" because it does - but not at peak. A device rated to add 65hp, amy add 65hp when the stock engine makes 100hp, like just above idle. The stock engine may peak at 200hp, the power adder may make it peak at 235hp.
