I would like to go ahead and get the utility bed off of my donor truck.

Problem is, I have no idea how. I've looked under it, and it shouldn't take too long to unbolt it from the chassis.

But how on earth I am going to remove the massive piece of steel from my truck, I have NO clue.

I'm sure its extremely heavy, and I don't have any equipment capable of picking it up from top once I unbolt it.

Any ideas?

 

Go fast, turn left.



If you have timbers and a couple bottle jacks you can get it up in the air with cribbing and then drive the truck out.

 

Couple saw horses, some cribbing and a hi-lift or 2 oughta do it. Block it up and drive out from under it then back a trailer under it and lower away.

 

Personally i like the go fast turn left idea best

 

Utility beds are heavy. Do not try to lift it by hand.

Unbolt the bed from the frame first. Disconnect the wiring for lights. Remove the fuel filler neck if it goes through the bed.

Use help from others. Four or more people can lift it if the bed is small, but this is risky.

A safer way is to use a forklift, tractor, engine hoist, or shop crane. You can also use a chain hoist from a beam.

Another option is to back the truck under a tree limb or beam and lift the bed with straps and a jack.

If you do not have tools, call a local shop, farm, or tow company. Many will lift it for a small fee.
