how often is a fuel filter chage required ?

I have a 95 Dodge 12 valve diesel and the owners manual recomends changing the fuel filter every 12,000 miles. I think that is excessive. What is a realistic miliage change interval for a fuel filter on this engine?

I usually run mine around 15,000 or when I notice a loss of fuel pressure on my fuel pressure gauge.

It's not miles that determine when to change it, it's fuel pressure.

I have had to change mine as soon as 2,000 miles and as long as 10,000.

Personally, I generally do the fuel filter at around 10k. It is quick and easy, and not that expensive.

The quality of your fuel source, and how clean the tank is probably also have a good bit to do with how long they will run before getting restrictive.

Every 10K or whenever I see a drop in post-filter fuel pressure.
