HO 24v
HO 24v
I don't want to Pi$$ of anyone so i will say sorry first.
I have never been a big 24v fan but My dad wanted a newer truck. So I have been looking for about two months and finaly found a truck that I liked. It had 157K on but I was not woried. I have always thought the HO 6spd wsa supposed to run strong and fast. Well after driving the first HO 1ton I was not impressed at all. My 180hp 94 ctd stock would have beat the crap out of that 01.
So off I go because this truck has to be sick or something. I passed a local dealer who just hapend to have two on his lot. drove them both.
lets just say I will be needing a fueling box as soon as I leave the lot if I buy a 24v.

Re:HO 24v
First off, being that the HO is a 6 speed (don't know what your 94 is) it will be slower than an auto. Secondly, my truck ran dead even with 99+ PSD's when it was bone stock. Tires, exhaust, everything. And mine's an ETC. Maybe you just don't know how to drive a "PROPERLY valved" engine.

Re:HO 24v
You'd be hard pressed to get me out of my 24V, 6 spd. I really don't think that your stock 94 would beat an HO, do you? Maybe a 94 auto against the HO 6spd. I really like the 6speed, but it's definately not a 1/4 mile racer! I also find that at lower RPM's, it does seem doggish. Just get the revs up into the 2000+ range and let her rip!
Re:HO 24v
Could the "Properly Valved"(24) been equiped with a "taller" rear gear?
I first test drove a Cummins with a 3:54 gear and felt like it wouldn't get out of it's own way.
Then test drove one with a 4:10.....big difference. ;D
Re:HO 24v
All I can say is that all of the Ho's I drove were dog city. sure after 2300 they got a little pick up. I pulled out in front of a car because It was a busy street boy was I sorry. I started out in second flew through the gears and when in 5th it still felt like I was missin a piston IN ALL of the trucks. Maybe they were all sick or something but they sure were no where close to my friends HO that he bought in 01. His ran great and I have drove it a lot so YES I know how to drive a 24v 6spd.
I'm just telling you what Happend to me. they really feel like the bottom end really suffers. Even when you are going 60 in 6th gear and you mash it they took tooooo long to increase speed. My 94 I know for sure would drive better because I have a cousin with a 95 5spd that is stock. After driveing the HO's I drove his. [undecided] 12v won. just my 0.02 on the three trucks I drove.
DM01

Dodgeman: Well, I guess we we'll never see you in a 24v that's liscenced to you! If you're thinking of a new truck, and want to bypass all the 2nd gen's, don't buy a new 3rd gen 'whisper' either. They act exactly the same as the 2nd's. I test drove one while mine was in the shop, and it was the same. But then I LIKED IT!!!
Re:HO 24v
fitzer. I have driven the new 03's they run great. I have even drove some 98 24v and 00 24v. I just never really liked the sound of the early 24v. In 00 they seemed to get quieter and did not have the same sound. I would love to have a 6spd but I think I'm going to push my dad into a 03 srw 1ton 6spd 4x4.
It is true that the 12v stole my heart and thats what I will drive..... unless my dad gets a fueling box for his new truck than I will give it a shot. :

Re:HO 24v
I'll keep my 24 valve. I like the way they sound. Better than an "UNDER"valver.
Plus the engines are louder. Which means even more noise. I have yet to meet a 12 valve that can hang with me. And no, they weren't stock. They smoked like a freight train. Gave me a **** good race. But just didn't have quite enough. ;D I'm dying to drive an 03 HO.

Re:HO 24v
Seeing as your helping your Dad get a new truck why not let him decide if it is OK to sound the way they do. Matter of fact maybe he just wants a good reliable up to date truck and it doesn't matter if it will race yours and meet your acceleration criteria. I am sure my son would really like a Slammed RamJam Hemi blown and injected Quadcab 4x4 in Dads driveway too, wonder what his motive might be. There was a survey on here as to how many of what model CTD's were among us, "surprize" 24V was the winner. PS care to put that 94 up against a 72 Hemi Cuda with a Clutchflite slop box Fancypants. PK

Re:HO 24v
Scotty why you laugh at us grey haired old hillbilly's. Just because some of us thought cetane was short for what came off a ship with car parts, Dodge diesels came stock with fool ejectors and a big Diff was what the salesman wanted trading in my old truck. PK
Re:HO 24v
My dad told me to choose the truck because when it comes time to pull I will be driveing it. My dad will only drive it around town or maybe to work. Other than that it will sit until we really need it. I just thought the HO shoule have a little more kick. I personaly don't like the way they drive. If its good for you that thats great. I'm not saying that if it came down to it and I could not get a 03 6spd HO then of course I would get the 01 or 02 HO 6spd. Just because my dad wants a newer truck.
DM01
