Help with ID of Cummins Engine

I just bought a early to mid 70's Michigan 175a Front end loader with a inline 6 Cummins. It is also turbocharged. It also has only 1 cylinder head Does anyone know what sizes were used in machinery like this. Its a pretty good size loader, weighs about 14ton with attachments, and has air brakes.

Thanks

I looked at buying a loader about that size several years ago and I seem to recall that it had a Cummins 160 in it. The one that I looked at had a bad waterpump that was no longer available from any source. I don't know if yours is the same but I seem to recall a motor ID plate on the right side of the loader motor.

It does have an ID plate, but no where does it list the HP rating, just the serial numbers.

Its an interesting water pump at least to me, I havent seen many with a grease fitting on the water pump

I have a 104b galion motor grader it has a 160 hp cummins but its not turbo, but if you have the serial # you can call 423-349-6111 and ask for parts tell them your trying to Identify the motor you have and If they ant real busy most of the time there very accommodating. It is Power Equipment a Komatsu dealer but I think many moons ago they were a Michigan dealer I think but want hurt to ask anyway. Hope this helps. Mike

CS, From my diesel catalogs of that era, Cummins showed in their const. diesels two models of the type with 1 head. 1) the JN 100 and 130 of 401 cu in 4 1/8 bore x 5 stroke (100 and 130 hp) and 2) the C 160, C 175, and C 180 0f 4 7/16 bore x 5 stroke. That is quite a loader, the one I had to keep running was a 175 B of about 1975 powered by a 8v 71 Detroit at 210 HP I think-an optional engine was available which was a 555 Cummins at that time. When the 8v 71 was about to cost too much to build we transplanted a new 3208 Cat at 225 HP and that was definately an upgrade in our often interrupted service of feeding 4 boilers with coal.Moved the loader back to occasional service in 2 years and sold it in 2 more when we got a new Cat 966D so we never got to see much trouble from the 3208.I ve seen these little Cummins in trucks(not long haul trucks in the early 60's and know of 1 now in a Pettibone-Mullikin loader.I can find them in the catalogs for a period of at least 20 years so I don't think they were too rare where a smaller engine than the N series was needed.
