Help!

Okay, i was just informed by the local police (in the podunk town of Due West, SC, where i attend college) that i had to have a muffler on my truck by Friday of this week or he was going to give me a $180 dollar ticket. i purchased the truck without a muffler, and don't have the money for one. Is there any legal loophole around this ticket?

Put it in the garage until he cools off, or you can afford a muffler. he cant ticket what isnt driving.

Some state say that a turbo is sufficient.

In Texas, no matter how much they try to trick you, the penal code states the turbocharger itself is considered a muffling device. Maybe look into SC's penal code?

Unfortunately, you are in podunk town where you now have the attention of a law inforcement officer. Park it and get a muffler because if you don't he will hound you until..........

Sounds like he has "diesel envy" .

Seriously, I'd get the ticket, go to court, plead "not guilty" and let the city prosecutor sort it out. But then again I just like to be a pain in their back side when they try to enforce stupid laws.

Ok, I take it back

I checked, you gotta have a muffler:

http://www.scstatehouse.net/cgi-bin/...=0&keyval=1082

(scroll down to "SECTION 56-5-5020. Mufflers")

But...I couldn't find a definition for "muffler", so the jury is still out (so to speak) on whether a turbo counts as a muffler in SC.

Check the classsifed section at the top of the page.
I believe there's a couple of exhaust systems/mufflers in there that might fix your problem without killing your wallet too bad.

If it were me i'd just get a stock muffler and completely gut it and just run a pipe through it. That way it looks like u got a muffler on there but actually its just a straight pipe.
