In my experience living in Asia for most of the last 35 years, I'd say Hino diesel are pretty good. The majority of diesel powered vehicles in East Asia are Hino, and they seem to be very strong and dependable in places where they don't get the best of maintenance.
I was really impressed by Hino buses doing 100mph up the Freedom highway from Bangkok to Chang Mai. That was a real white knuckle trip for me.
At one time I sold cars at a GM dealership and we had Isuzu pickups with diesels, we didn't have many problems with them, especially compared to the GM products, (Buicks).

To have a Cat in a pickup, you would have to pay a $15,000-$20,000 premeium. And it just ain't worth it. When they break, it cost 2-4 times as much to fix.
I have worked around heavy equipment for the better part of 26 years, and it always cost atleast twice as much to repair when compared to any other brand.
If you think $45,000 is a lot for a 1 ton pickup, you ain't seen anything. A Cat engines would put that same truck in the $55,000-$60,000 range.
