Meet my new trinket, Mr. Piston. No its not a photo chop, yes it really is in the back of my truck right now. Not sure what I'm going to do with it............but its cast and weights about 200 lbs. maybe a base for the bench grinder.............
Buts its going to be living with me in the garage

I've seen White-Superior connecting rods bigger than guitars....maybe there. There is a part number cast into it, but I just got it tonight, didn't write it down, haven't researched it yet.

Its a 15" diameter piston. I know the absolute largest Caterpillar engine (3600 series) only has a bore diameter of 11". A Cat G3616 compressor station engine has a shipping weight of 65,000lbs. And this ones bigger.
I got it from a friend who recently purchased an automotive repair shop from some old timer. this was in the back corner of the shop just sitting there. He quickly grew tired of moving it out of the way, so I was all over it.

No its twice the size of a locomotive piston, an EMD 16-567C V16 out of a locomotive has an 8 1/2" bore. A natural gas compressor Cat G3616 V16 has a bore of 11". This piston is 15". I don't know anything about Marine spec engines and we're 1000kms from nearest port. But maybe something from big marine engine. I don't know.

My guess is that it is from a marine engine. Keep us posted on what you finally find out.
Some of those marine engines are HUGE. Was inside (yes, really inside!) one many years ago. Was on a ladder inside the cylinder and with both arms stretched out could not touch either cylinder wall. Each piston weighed over a ton - and there were seven of them!
