General Tire, who has used them?

I am shopping for new tires for the truck, and the best price for a highway tire so far is a set of General Grabber HTS. From what I've read they seem to be a good tire, just wondering if anyone here has used them, or has them on their truck?

I don't have them on my truck, but my wife's F-150 came with a set. Got 70K out of them. So my one experience with them was good.

I've had them on other vehicles. They were fine till they got thin, then they'd come apart and get lumpy. I had several sets and every set did this.

I have ran them on my truck and trailer and have nothing but troubles with them. You want a tire that will go the distance michelin is the on i have had the best luck with. I was running the xps traction and was getting 60k out of them without rotating and hauling lots of weight

J.R.:

I just put a set of "General Grabber UHP's" on my 1996 Dodge CTD and am very happy with them. They have a softer compound than the HTS tires and won't wear as long but they ride and drive real good. I am running the
275/70R/16 sized Generals on my 1996.

Hope that helps you some buddy.

I dont know about the exact tire that you are asking about but a friends 3500 dually came with generals from the factory. He has 30,000 miles on them and they are about shot already. They also have poor traction in wet weather.

My truck came with the General Ameratrac TR's on it got 56k on them now and about another 10k left on them good tires no complaints debating between the TR's and the Grabber HTS tires now.

Well, I was not able to get the General's. They would have been back ordered until October. I ended up getting a set of Michelin LTX MS2's. So far I like em.

Thank you all for the comments on the General HTS.

FWIW, General has been having a few problems. There was a thread up 2 or 3 weeks ago about a fellow having a problem and because General was replacing and removing so many tires from the market, the Ameritracs were on national backorder.

Not all giggles about the OEM General Ameritracs or their Ford-equivalent Conti-Tracs. Michelins are my preference but the XPS RIB was not available in a 17...BUT...

Michelin's sibling B F Goodrich brand Commercial T/As work well as long as you rotate 'em and keep the front end aligned.

I put 4 General Grabber AT+4 I believe is what they are on the back of my truck. Truck tips the scales at 9500lbs. Have had them on there for 56k and tread is down to the wear bars. I paid about $108 each for them and plan to run them thru the winter and change them out in the spring, should be another 5-10k. In my opinion well worth the money I paid for them. Have not tried the highway treads cause I'm off in fields and jobsites all the time so needed something a bit more grabby.

General Tire, who has used them

What a remarkable amount of mileage the General Ameratrac TRs have! If you have had good service from them and have no concerns, it makes sense to stay with what you know. But looking into Priority Tire coupon codes might also be helpful, particularly if they provide comparable or even better performance and longevity. Comparing ratings and costs can be useful in determining which option best meets your needs. Does anyone else have suggestions or experience with Priority Tires?

My 81 W250 came from the factory with them. Had 2 of them blow apart in the 1st 10,000 miles. Neither the dealer nor General would replace them under warranty. Haven't bought one sense and never will.
