Yep, 75mpg stupid on a 3 cylinder diesel....stupid is taking a 8k truck 30mins to get the mail and groceries. Those things are go cart nimble..nascar design roll structure...my nephew's a cop and one got t-boned by a drunk bonehead in a 1 ton...no serious injuries and the car didn't roll...the bags all inflated and it bounced...wasn't even written off.
You don't use a pipe wrench to work on your engine....it's all about the right tool for the job. For parking in the city....you can drive into parallel parking spots. The headlights are 3 times as effective as our pieces of crap...I'd drive in one before I wrote it off as a joke... KS

I dunno about that. I have a video on my computer (I'll see if I can find a link to it online) that shows one crashing into a jersey barrier at around 70ish. British TV prog. Totally collapses the front end, but still able to open the doors. Not sayin' that they would be happy hitting the 54,000 lbs, just that they might not be as scathed as you think.
But members here might want this model

first off i could never fit in one, second i drive a 54,000 lb truck for a living, if I ever hit that thing there would be nothing left of it so I dont care how safe you say they are ill take my truck any day. Also if I want to take my 8k lb truck to 30 mins to get groceries thats my choice and this is America so i can.
We have the diesel ones in Canada, and its very rare that Canada gets something that the US doesn't. I'd expect to see a diesel Smart car there.

Wish I still had my '95 Civic HX...that was a much larger car that was rated at 39/45 (old EPA test protocol).
Once they start selling the diesel Smarts here they'll make a lot more sense.
A hyper-mini vehicle like this only makes sense if it also gets hyper-mpg.

I'd like one to go WITH my truck. Drive it into the back, drive my truck to the city, unload the car to tool around the city in, and then drive the truck home. I would NOT drive one of those things on a freeway in any city in the world! But for driving around town- you betcha- in a heartbeat!!
