Question Fuel Recipts

I am sitting next to a growing mountain of recipts from the past few months. I have a tendency to always obtain and hold onto recipts.
I was curious about what everyone else here does with recipts? Is there any benefit to keeping recipts except to see how a couple months ago fuel was $0.60 cheaper than it is now?

I get one every stop for fuel so I can enter the data into my logbook at home on the computer... I do have a full record of all fuel since 19,000 on the clock. I'm currently around 58K on the clock...

Records from 7/1/2003 @ 19,000 miles till present...

MPG average - 20.36 MPG (coming off of winter fuel)
Gallons used - 2,125.73 Gallons
Total Spent - $4,066.35

All of this can be done with a simple program called "Automotive Wolf" you can download a free trial copy.

Well worth the $29.95 to keep your beast in top shape!

I only keep mine long enough to figure out my mpgs.
Monthly invoice from the credit card company has replaced saving receipts for tax purposes.

I keep it until I fill up again.
It's proof that I bought X number of gallons @ X date in case I get a load of bad fuel.

I used to keep them for "tax" purposes, but then I was told to just "take the mileage". Meaning that I had only about $900.00 in fuel reciepts (about 20% of them lost I estimate). There is alot more depreication happening to a 26K used truck than $900 a year! My tax "lady" told us to jsut keep logs of the milage used for work and play and take the write off that way. I go along with what saves me the most money. Good idea about the software for keeping records though. I imagine it's pretty comprehensive.

I use debit cards to buy fuel so I keep the receipt to balance my checkbook in Quicken. Quicken also shows me how much I spend on various things.

I as well.

I don't want to keep a log of how much I've spent on fuel, depression is a bad thing.

For the poll, I said a month, even though it's more like 2 weeks if I'm lucky.

According to my logs I've run 25564.0 miles using 1674.13 gallons at an average price of $1.83/gal demonstrating 15.27 miles per gallon with fuel costs averaging 12.012 cents per mile for a total of $3052.97 of fuel with an average of 3652 miles between oil changes. I like homemade log software.

same as Shovelhead and Calls here. I just stuff them in my ashtray till it overflows, lol.

I used to throw them out but after getting a bad load of fuel and getting stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere w/ a dead lift pump I def. keep mine now.
