Can the fuel hose that is avaliable at the parts houses be used for diesel? I dont want to have to replace it in a few weeks if it is wrong.

 

In a word,,NO. The clerk at the parts house will tell you it is but don't believe them. Get hose that is USCG rated as diesel use. You can get at any marine supply house or on line at Grey Marine or similar. You might have a heavy truck parts supply near you that handles it too. If you don't use the right hose you will be doing a replace all over again.

 

got about 20k miles on NORMAL EVERYDAY FUEL LINE from oreilly's (yeah you all heard me right) and NO PROBLEMS i wouldn't spend 3-5 times the money on "diesel hose"

 

Getting the right hose is definitely worth it. Using marine hose is even better. Some of the non-diesel rated hoses will come apart and start to put pieces of the hose through your fuel system. I have seen this happen and require an injection pump to be rebuilt. Also, as airleaks are always a pain, if you plan on keeping the truck for any length of time, you will definitely put off future air leaks with marine grade hose.

yea if you dont hot shot haul or anything of the sort and don't put 100k on a truck in a year why the editwould you spend 100$ on fuel hose? Pointless. $5 every 5-10 yearswould still be better in my book. Not everyone that owns a ctd is a millionare like you bro.

BTW, I've been running on regular fuel line for almost 2 years.

 

I'm no millionaire bro, I just don't like to be stuck on the side of the road. I've seen cheap gasser hose melt down with diesel fuel enough to know better.

25 years ago while still in highschool after changing the oil in my 67 chev 1/2 ton I decided to replace the inline fuel filter hose because of all the cracks in it (being proactive).

I found some hose in the garage, and installed it. Later that day while driving around I had flames comming out from under the hood, (not painted on real flames), I pulled over and tried to turn off the engine, but the hose I used was now leaking, spraying gas onto the exhaust manifold and still feeding the carb, but melted wires kept the ignition working- and fueling the engine and fire.

Any ways after the fire was out and I got a tow back home I learned the difference between rubber hose and gas line hose.

Whats my point? I don't know if using Gas line hose is good or bad to use with diesel, but 25 years later I remember that It is important to use the CORRECT hose for the aplication.

 

Don't waste your money on anything less than diesel rated fuel line. I did mine twice already with regular hose just because I could not find anything local in this small town I live in.

I KNEW it would not last and of course it didn't... I have a small leak again now and will be ordering some USCG approved fuel line this evening.

Using the cheap stuff is just asking for trouble, I have seen with my own eyes how diesel breaks it down and turns it into mush.

 

so as i was trying to say YES you can use regular fuel hose but NO it wont last near as long.... also the cheap gas hose could be used for a temporary repair.

After you see which materials are compatible with diesel go down the chart and click gasoline and you'll see that things change.

 

SAE30R6 fuel hose is rated for use with diesel at a maximum operating temperature of 212*F.

SAE30R7 fuel hose is rated for use with diesel at a maximum operating temperature of +250*F. ---- Better under the hood.

All hoses of quality will have the appropriate markings as such.
