Fords going TWIN TURBO?

I was reading somewhere that Ford's 6.0 was a quick fix for emissions and they have been working on a 6.4 twin turbo diesel that is supposed to be released in july for the '07 model. Didnt read any hp/torque figures though. This should really get things interesting. Just the fact that its labeled a "TWIN TURBO" will get the consumers drooling.

Ford does not own cummins

Cummins has contract with chrysler till at least the end of 07 when the cummins will evolve to a 6.7 or so for our trucks.. I dont buy this either.. Why are they experimenting with a new engine when they cant even get their current one right....

As far as im concerned NOT HAPPENING. (cummins i should say) Unless mercedez diesels somehow make their way into dodges, then id say there is a slight possibility. Toyota will have Hinu diesels, Chevy seems content with Isuzu manufactured diesels, Now why dodge wouldnt wanna stick with what has proven to be good? That would be beyond me...

And as far as twin turboed fords go, Well, if its gonna follow suite to the 6.0, id say its a recipe for disaster....

Tx

Usually, the main reasons a manufacturer won't stay with a proven diesel engine are simple economics and tougher and tougher emissions mandates. If for any unforseeable reason an engine no longer becomes economically viable or R&D can't make it meet emissions (or a combination of the two), the manufacturer is forced to look for alternatives.

I'm not saying this is what either manufacturer is or will be doing but the possibilities exist. Regardless, I don't see how it would be possible for Ford to have anything to do with Cummins in the light duty application as long as Ford and DC have their existing light duty diesel engine supply contracts in place, which are NOT set to expire anytime soon.

I have read a little on this and have seen pictures. I am not sue if they are for the ford or not but the engine looks like a beast. And one of the guys posting sounds like he has seen the prototype. Check it out http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...ead.php?t=5317

Not arguing, but if Ford was to write a check for the balance of the contract. They could go with another engine program, correct? I guess its how the contract is written, has allot to do with it also. I think Ford has had it with Navistar and loosing too many loyal Ford customers.

Will the new guinea pig engine be a new engine from the pan up or is it a new version of the 6 point uh-oh? Some folks over at "get a life" are speculating it's a reborn 7.3 with little pistons. I'd still rather have a Dodge with a Hemi than a Ford with a PoSD. But I'm curious to what it is anyhow. I couldn't see the pics either. Hafta join their little pitty party to see them.

This is what I heard also, punched out 6.0 with twins. I wonder what they'll put behind it.

Ford can put 15 turbos on that engine if they want to and it still won't get the job done like the Cummins. What good is 700 lb./ft. of torque sitting in the shop?
