Duramax died...

This morning when driving to work I was following what looked to be a 2003 or 2004 GMC with a diesel in it...I noticed everytime the guy took of it would puff smoke...I thought cool...well them after about 10miles it would shoot out a cloud everytime the truck shifted (at least that is what it looked like) I noticed the guy look around alot in the cab....well in about 5miles after that a HUGE cloud of smoke came rolling out of it and he lost complete power...He coasted to the side of the road....It was an impressive amount of smoke rolling out of this thing....

So when you pulled over to help him out, did he provide any details on the abnormal symptoms? Gage readings, sounds, etc.?

I saw one at the red light last week with white smoke pouring out the exhaust. I thought he was headed to the chevy dealership, but he went on out of town, billowing smoke the whole way. I guess he wasn't worried about it, but it looked bad.

Mine clouds up the sky with good ole soot. HAHAHAHA Makes people back away from the area fast. Funny how that tends to happen. Never a problem after 56,000 miles. Just changed the tranny fluid as well. Clean as a whistle. Good tranny.

Now he gets to look forward to the dealer saying "can't get them injectors for about 3 months if you lucky". I heard they are failing faster than they can be made (with all things considered). Kevin

I know a few folks who have the duramax and the injector wasn't the problem. The O ring wasn't properly installed when the injector was installed. New O-orings and back on the road. I do like that allison.

i guess i should of not braged about my injectors, started the motor a few days ago and it was smoking like a buger with a rought idle, took in and the found a bad injector, once replaced they changed another and another, now all 8 are changed with just over a hundred k on them, but i also here the new cummins with the high pressure bosch system is having the same injector problems, i just wish the could figure this **** out, sucks having your truck down for a day

Most CTD failures lately are a $150 lift pump.. The injectors seem to be changed pre-maturely by some of the DC techs when another problem was the cause, ie. the fuel return valve or a faulty crank sensor.

FredW - I am surprised you got the truck back that fast, the back order on injectors is getting a little silly. From what my business partner knows, if one fails they replace all of them.

that is what i was hopping they were gonna do, but it took a bit of convicing to get them to do it, ya the dealer in town has 30 injectors in stock he says at all times, and if they would of just changed all eight instead of 4 then try again, i could of had back in 5 hrs

Mom's dmax is at 40k in a little over a year and no issues yet. Runs like a champ. I'm in love with that transmission though.
