Dr. Z add campaign..... I'm dissapointed.

Why is DC pushing this German engineering issue all of a sudden? Are ther no american engineers left at DC?

I'm not predjudice, I just don't understand why DC won't let me pretend to drive an American truck anymore.

Because a lot of American made products SUCK! I am all for American made, but you don't get what you pay for anymore. I think that they must have like VW's commercials too so they went in the same direction.

I was having this discussion with some fellow guitarists. I'm getting a new guitar amp made by "Dr. Z", so we were saying he should sue

I'm getting the Stang Ray that Brad Paisley uses

What gets me is if you look at JD Power or Consumer Reports, German cars are well BEHIND American brands in terms of dependability.

They just talk about German engineering like it's a good thing, and people seem to buy it. A triumph of marketing over reality to be sure.

I doubt you will see Mercedes ads talking about adding American engineering to improve reliability…

Jeff,

Rule #1 - Perception is reality. It doesn't matter if German engineering is superior or not - what matters is if the American consumer perceives German engineering as being superior to American (or Japanese, or Korean, etc.) engineering.

…only worse.

To me the ads seem to imply that German design is inherently superior or something, like they are a shade away from implying that they are going to improve Dodge with master race engineering.

I’m generally easy going, and most of my family's roots are German, but I found the ads borderline offensive.

I don't think there is any amp that would make my guitar sound better....Dr. Z endorsed or not! edit

As for Dodge trucks, I'm sure Dr. Z has an enourmous amount of exposure to the engineers that design these mousetraps.

I guess I can see that (my wife is Texas Hill Country German), but I believe the message they're trying to convey is that you're getting a bargain Mercedes when you buy that Chrysler 300C since it uses the last generation E-class rear suspension, etc.

Thumbs up

We have the 5 link in our Mercedes 300. You really cant beat it. If the Chrysler has a 5 link that is similar, it should be a world class set up. When MB did the research and development on their 5 link back in 84, the design was changed some 70 times in testing before it was finalized for production.

Setting a tad of negative camber in it I can take a corner better than the newest Vette @ full power. Not bad for a 4 door family ride.

I think the commercials are great! DC just reported double the profit of last quarter. Ford and GM, not even close. Most of the profit was from the MB side of things with the newest E class, but at least we have a good idea that DC is not going anywhere, anytime soon. Yes, the fully electronic E's had some hiccups in the first years, but nearly 100% of that has been wipped and they are now back to the relaibility levels one would expect from MB.

China is building a car plant in the US. How you like them apples?? Gots to look at de big picture ehh??

I think the ads are cool. I do wish that the Chrysler corporation would get back more to the "Old School" ways. Why not have Richard Petty as a spokes person!?! I do like some of the advances with the Hemi with the SRT line, but between 1964-1971, if ANYTHING said Hemi on it, it meant business. Oh well, I do think Chrysler is doing better with their image, but I have more reverence and respect for the American Iron image than the German enigineering. Just my opinion.

When the Chinese start manufacturing flip flops and rubber dog poo in the U.S., I'm outta here

In one of the commercials, Dr. Z refers to something by saying "it's a German thing, you wouldn't understand."

I drive an American truck built by Americans whose paychecks are signed with German engineered pens. Your right, I don't understand the condescending tone to these commercials.

Well I still own a Cummins with an "S" not a "Z". Don't know how long the Cummins motor is gonna be put in these trucks. Cummins better start making clean diesels too, or were all doomed.

I guess we'll have to ask Dr. Z what the future holds.

I've got an American flag tattooed on my arm. Very patriotic and love my country. I've owned a BMW in the past. My wife currently drives one. If you doubt the quality of engineering, you haven't driven one. PERIOD.
I've never driven a MB, but BMW's truly are the ultimate driving machines, except for my CTD...
I wish my Dodge was as well thought out and engineered and screwed together as solid as these cars.
Flame suit on... But like I said, if you don't have first hand experience, don't bother commenting...
