I've found "dodge warranty" to be along the lines of "military intelligence", "responsible government", and the old standby "government worker". All oxymorons at their sad best.

One day perhaps an auto company will build a vehicle using parts with a reasonable service life, but until then, we're pretty much stuck. Besides, part of the problem that north american companies are having, is warranty costs. This shouldn't be, but it happens. Because there is never time to do it right, there is always time to do it again. They are just figuring out how much it costs now.

You know the American way... build it as cheap as possible with as much markup as possible. Get it out the door and we'll worry about fixing it later.

One reason is ALOT of people are modding the trucks, putting down twice the HP/torque that dodge designed for, then claiming warranty when the tranny starts slipping or something else breaks .

I'd be willing to bet the percentage of people "modding" their Cummins powered trucks is pretty small. Sure, there are a lot of people doing it here, but in total numbers of Ram trucks sold, we are the minority.

It has more to do with money. DC pays out a lot of money in warranty repairs. Since the auto industry has been hemmoraging cash the last few years, they are looking for any way to cut off that flow. Warranty is a quick start.

The percentage maybe small, but when something breaks because of significant engine mods the cost is BIG - toasted trannys, CP3s, injectors, etc.

Look at all the threads on how to remove all signs of downloaders, chips etc. I think more than just one or two guys are trying to fool the dealer.

Dodge has a warranty?

Seriously, though - if I think a product needs a warranty... I won't buy it.
Any machine properly designed and manufactured will sail through it's warranty period with flying colors, if it's used in the manner in which it was intended.

I have almost 60000 miles on my 2005 dodge.
I have spent more on diagonistic fees and warranty deductable than I spent for repairs on my previous truck which I sold with 119000 miles (truck was another brand)

I read somewhere that when Dodge sends out surveys to new owners, one of the questions is why did you buy a Dodge? Since the 7/70 warranty was well down the list, they felt it wasn't a selling point so back to 3/36.

The 05's were the last year that had 7/70.

nah, the dodge warranty is the same as the GM's now, im not sure why you'd be better off with one over the other, the trucks have not changed (cheapened) or anything, I just look at it as a simple change on paper...honestly I wouldnt buy one truck over the other based on warranty length. IMO if the factory messed something up, it will have shown itself in the first 10,000 miles...

3/36 on everything, 100k for the motor

thats the way both dodge and GM are as far as I know?

I think that GM has a 7/70 now to try to improve sales. I was also wondering why Dodge dropped the longer warranty.
