Talking Dodge Cummins vs. Porsche Carrera

I am truly amazed on what these trucks can do. I was cruisindown the way @65 look in my mirror and see a porsche come bulleting up along side of me. I thought to myself what the heck its worth a try shut the ac off started spoolin the turbo looked over saw to yuppies with noses in the air. I figure I will show them what a 7000lb truck equiped with a cummins can do to there little porsche carrera turboed. They go to fly past me in the fast lane I lay into it side by side at 3/4 of the throttle so I quickly realize this ones going to take all its got pedal goes to the floor I pull away slowly I am now a truck length ahead of him boost 45lbs and holdin at 100mph still pulling slow hit low 120s start defueling Im done porsche had slowed down pryer to me pulling him at 110 I slow down to exit look over and lets just say there noses were in the air no more. Most challenge I have ever had. Just think if I had twins that will be the day. Just thought share my exitment for a day its pretty funny when someone spends $100,000 on a car when are dodge cummins that can do alot more than just be fast for quarter amount of the money. Well that is up to 120 or so anyway I realize those porches can do a buck 50 or so just need that 2speed rearend

I used to own a 96 911 (until I bought the boat that neccessitated my need for the Dodge).

I can say this, if in fact you were racing a newer porsche, and it was a twin turbo, there'd be no way in hell you'd keep up. My plain carrera, non-turbo'd would pull 150 without a whimper. Top speed was 177. Stock.

If it was an older vintage, prior to the twins, say late eighties, I can see that. But, those twin turbos are **** sweet and **** fast.

Anyway, glad you had a good time..

It was a new porsche. Notice only said I took it to 120 started defueling until I get the 4000gsk springs then I will gain little more topend thats all I have for top speed. Seems to me he gave it all he had pretty embarassing getting stomped round by a 7000lb truck.

Glad you had fun. Much more glad there wasn't a curve on the road....

There ARE reasons for owning something German.

you gotta be slipp'n! That's 177 feet per second. and a truck that weighs 7000lbs would cover close to 800 feet in a panic stop. Not a smart thing to do.

Im gonna have to say that you got lucky and you encountered a porsche driver who had no [*EDITED*] clue what they were doin. My girlfriends dad has a 2003 996 and I have driven it and I will tell you that if that driver had any clue what they were doin, you would not stand a chance. I think you got lucky and they never took it out of 6th gear. Good kill though makin them feel like pieces of [*EDITED*].

I'm no stranger to fast sports cars and although this was in fun he would hand you your rear on a plate it he wanted to. Those are fast cars and even an '80's vintage 911 is way more than our trucks can handle. Stick to the 32v Northstars and Lincolns, they're much easier.

The big concern I have [as well as safety out there racing down the highway] is what our massive truck tires can take for speeds.
I doubt that the manufacturer factored in speeds much over the max limit on the roads with these tires.
I may have exceeded the limits a few times... Kind of curious if they just blow up or what when the limits are met for too long.

I don't know I cruised 150 + most of the way from Flin Flon to Thompson (380 km) and the tires didn't blow up ......... fuel mileage sucked though.............

had to make sure the new gasket was well seated

oh yeah that's in km/hr for you US types

just check 285/75r16 bfg all terrains have a service description of 122Q ..the Q is the speed rating according to bfg q = a rating of 160 km/hr or 100mph

Many a time I would be cruzin in my blown big block chevelle and some guy would try to take me off a light. Well.... I would nail it up to the speed limit and put a couple of car lengths on them in the first 60'. Hit the speed limit and back off..... they catch up and go by a bit later then go around bragging about how the beat a blown chevelle. Funny how they would turn down an invitation to the drag strip (where it's safe and legal) to prove it.

Was somewhere in Missouri. Bumpin along at the usual 80 in the `00 Stang. Notices the big blue oval from a PSD SD in my rear view (hemeroid close). Pulled over to let `em pass. Noticed it was a 7.3L PSD of the `02ish ventage. Dropped into fourth pulled along side, pointed and laughed. He slowes down to 60 or or so, stomps is, gets 2nd, black smoke, noise and some respectable acceleration. Truck was obviously chipped w/ intake and big exhaust. Played with him for about 40 miles. He did the 60 to get 2nd thingy several times. Lets just put it this way, I was only grabbing 3rd although I still has 20mph worth of 2nd if I wanted and the PSD was no match. He kept getting out of it at 100, govenor I'm guessing - and E rated tires. Still not bad for a CC Duallly 4x4. We both smiled and gave the thumbs up when he exited. Just a friendly game of cat and mouse, or cheeta and mouse, however you want to look at it.

I raced one Ls1 Camaro and we went till 130 and he was jaw-dropped when he looked over and I was still there even at 130mph. When I added my chip my gov. went by by and now i was just relyin on the rev limit.
