Diesel van
Chrysler division is just Chrysler. Each division is separate.
The deal for the Pooler plant was killed when Gov. Sonny Perdue pressured DC to make a decision. The state invested taxpayer dollars heavily to make DC come there. But, I didn't see where DC actually said they were going to Pooler. They were looking at several sites in the South for their plant to replace I believe the van plant in Canada.
20mpg is what I've seen so far. That's at least as good as the 5.9 Cummins and perhaps equal to the 3.9 Cummins.

I'd imagine that the reason the Sprinter has a mercedes diesel, is because the whole van is a mercedes! Freightliner just has them ordered w/ their name on em, and Dodge is a division of Daimler (Daimler-Benz). Pretty much self explanatory.
BTW, you guys think a mercedes car w the diesel is worth $250? A co-worker has one he's trying to sell.

seems like I remember reading a while back that by assembling them here they are only shipping parts, not completed vehicles. I think there is some kind of tax advantage in that. I wish I could find the article I read a while back. I think they actually put the whole thing together in Germany, test it, and take it apart for shipping. Kind of crazy if that is what really happens.
We have several of the Sprinters here at work. They seem to be pretty good. We have had them about a year. They have two different box heights, several wheelbases, as well as 3/4 and 1 tons and I could swear they had a dually model. They get up and go pretty well. The gas mileage while I dont have a specific number is significantly better than the ford and gmc vans that they replaced. They look narrow due to the heigth of the box but they are at least as wide as a full size ford or gmc van maybe a bit wider. The rear ends are light and they really suck in the snow. We just put a pair of aggressive snow tires on one and now waiting for some snow to see if they do better. Outside of the snow they do very well and the drivers really like them.
I see now on the Freightliner website, that they do offer a dually model. But that's now, not the one I test drove last year. FedEx, UPS and Sweetheart (latter I heard) are all using or have ordered them.
Compensate for the light rears by adding sand bags over the wheels. And the reason they are narrow is because most roads and streets in Europe are the same....narrow.
