POLARIS DIESEL
This is the first diesel-powered ATV on the market and provides riders with the low-end torque and outstanding fuel economy of diesel power, and features such as: automatic Polaris Variable Transmission with the Polaris Engine Braking System (EBS), intelligent On-Demand true 4-wheel drive, independent MacPherson strut front suspension and long-travel independent rear suspension, full floorboards, and single-lever all-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.
The DIESEL gives farmers, ranchers, and work crews the versatility of an ATV, plus the strong, steady power and workplace fuel compatibility of a diesel engine. Polaris designed the DIESEL’s .455-liter diesel engine from the ground up specifically for this ATV. This liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine has a premium, dry sump oil system for optimal cooling and to enhance performance, and it is counterbalanced for smooth operation. It has a heavy duty starter, 300-watt alternator, and two batteries for maximum cranking power.
The DIESEL uses the fully automatic PVT (Polaris Variable Transmission) with the Polaris Engine Braking System. The PVT requires no shifting, so the rider is always in the right gear, whether towing loads, hauling cargo, or maneuvering across a feedlot or job site. The transmission is dual- sensing, so it responds to both engine RPM and vehicle torque load for cooler operation and superior backshifting in all conditions. EBS is beneficial when riding on hilly terrain and in mountainous areas. It utilizes engine compression to improve braking efficiency.
The DIESEL’s E-Z Shift lever lets a rider select high or low gear range, or reverse. A thumb switch lets the drive quickly and easily move between 2-wheel drive and On-Demand true 4-wheel drive while riding.
Power is delivered to the wheels by a 4-wheel independent shaft drive system identical to the one used on the gas-powered Polaris Sportsman 500, the premier ATV on the market. The MacPherson strut independent front suspension provides the DIESEL with 6.25 inches of travel and gives this ATV a tight, 65-inch turning radius. The progressive-rate independent rear suspension has dual gas shocks, 9.5 inches of vertical rear wheel travel, and a unique stabilizing anti-roll bar. The DIESEL’s 11 inches of ground clearance give this hard-working ATV outstanding on-the-job mobility.
The DIESEL has single-lever, all-wheel hydraulic disc brakes and a hydraulic rear axle-mounted foot brake. It also has an electronic speedometer with a digital hour meter and an odometer/tripmeter offering readouts in both miles and kilometers. Other standard features include: rugged, composite-material front and rear racks with a total cargo capacity of 270 pounds (90 front/i 80 rear); a heavy-duty hitch with a 1,225-pound towing capacity; front DC outlet and rear DC plug-in; composite-material full floorboards; 3.75-gallon fuel tank; and three quartz-halogen headlights and a brake light.
FEATURES
• Electronic speedometer with digital hour meter and odometer/tripmeter providing readouts in miles and kilometers.
• Polaris .455-liter, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke diesel engine with EBS (Engine Braking System).
• Independent 4-wheel shaft drive.
• Polaris On-Demand true 4-wheel drive. Senses when the rear wheels begin to lose traction, then instantly and automatically engages both front wheels with full torque. Thumb switch activates 4-wheel drive system.
• Progressive-rate independent rear suspension with twin 1-inch gas bag shocks, stabilizing anti-roll bar, and 9.5 inches of travel.
• Industry-leading 11 inches of ground clearance.
• Tight-turning MacPherson strut front suspension with 6.25 inches of travel.
• Dual-sensing fully automatic PVT (Polaris Variable Transmission).
• Single-lever all-wheel, hydraulic disc brakes and hydraulic rear axle-mounted foot brake.
• Composite material full floorboards and front and rear cargo racks.
• Total cargo rack capacity of 270 pounds (90 pounds front, 180 pounds rear).
• Three quartz halogen headlights and a taillight.
• Electric start with recoil backup.
• 3.75-gallon fuel tank.
• Tow capacity of 1,225 pounds.
• Body panels color: Blue

I wonder if you could BOMB it?
I would assume it is direct injection???
I have been looking into BOMBing my lawn mower........
I was thinking maybe get the injectors modified, install a pyrometer, etc...
Link to Mower
It has a 23.5HP 1.0L I3 Kubota diesel engine.....
It needs a little more power for them tall grass spots!
What do ya'll think? It have any potential???

Polaris machines in general are rgeat!! I have 5 of them right now, 3 quads and 2 snowmobiles. I have heard that the diesels were a bit problematic but I would guess that it was because of being owned by people who did not know about them.

That Kubota will begin to smoke with a few hours on the clock.
It's probably IN-direct injection, that's why it's so quiet!

"Brother in law had one for a while. The engine held up well, but was slow. It had gobs of torque, but was slow. It rode nice, but was slow. Built like a tank, but was slow. Had a diesel clatter, and was slow. I am not talking slow, but S-L-O-W. I mean a 330 Magnum will out-accelerate it, but may not be able to outrun it top end (never had the patience to wait that long). Had so much low-end torque, you could hardly tell if you were going uphill or downhill, but either way, you went slow.
Did I mention it was slow? It was a great concept, targeted for farmers & construction workers, where they didn't think speed mattered as much as hauling/towing ability, fuel efficency (went ALL day without refueling) and not having to have 2 kinds of fuel around (just filled it with diesel like the tractor or payloader or whatever). However, speaking for the Farmer's side, with fields scattered around, it was just too slow. Ranchers hated them because they couldn't outrun a cow. The construction workers liked them, but found the Rangers could haul way more, so it kind of became Polaris' red-headed stepchild, so to speak.

they got one at the mine where my dad works ....... it's an awsome work machine will pull darn near anything you put behind it, but it is painfully slow
I don't think they make it anymore but I'd deffinatly be very interested in one of I saw one for sale.

polaris still makes them for europe market
, there are a few left in showrooms from the 03 model year. i've been told they a very loud like a damar tractor, (china diesel). and that they have very slow acceleration. i remember honda had a 450cc twin with a turbo. anyone interested in getting a polaris and installing a turbo on it. that would really spice it up.
i was told by one of the local dealers that they would last forever. but you would die of old age trying to keep up with other riders.
